Potential causes of a P0108 code:

  • Bad MAP sensor
  • Leak in vacuum supply line to MAP sensor
  • Engine vacuum leak
  • Short on signal wire to PCM
  • Short on reference voltage wire from PCM
  • Open in ground circuit to MAP
  • Worn engine causing low vacuum

SOURCE: 2001 Dodge 1500 4x4 fault code PO 108

If you don't find that vacuum leak,( which is a common cause too) look with a scan tool at the reading on reported intake air temperature sensor. It should be within 10 Deg of your ambient temperature.
An air temperature sensor fault can cause flooding/starving of the engine. Some of the ones I've seen will report temperatures over 50F higher than the normal air temperature and fluctuate rapidly. Such a jump really affects how the computer calculates the mixture.

hope that helps some...

SOURCE: runs rough, black smoke, computer bank 1 burning too lean

Sounds like bad injectors, bad O2 sensors, and or too much fuel psi. Check the fuel psi against what the service manual says. If the fuel psi is too high, your regulator is bad. If the fuel psi checks out ok, you likely have a bad O2 or bad fuel injector(s).

Take it to an Autozone or O'Reillys and they will test the computer for you. It should have set a code, but you don't know if the code light works so its your best bet. Sounds like it is running rich and the crankshaft module is not advancing the timing.

My 99 Firebird just started running VERY rough , surges , misses, hard to start, black smoke with raw fuel coming out of exaust

Have the codes read... Repost. Want a guess, Injectors stuck open. Black smoke is to much fuel. Could be the pcm died also.

Rough idle and smoke out of my golf 4 year 1999

if black smoke then could be valves worn , that would account for rough idle , could also be piston rings , does it pull uphill in a higher gear than you might usually use ? if it does then the rings should be ok ,get the OBD codes read as may indicate some sensor/switch but if black smoke thats oil entering the fuel system somewhere

My 96 sunfire 2.2 l auto idels rough and blows out black smoke when i rev up the motor. i also hesitates on the highwy

Black smoke is from too much fuel, or a mis-firing of the spark plug. Pull all plugs to look to see if one is blackened. If so, this is your troubled cylinder. You can test each spark plug wire with a High energy spark plug tester. If that looks OK, then do a compresion test to see if the mechanical part of the engine seems good.

Black smoke when i start engine, very rough idle.

sounds like possible a sensor went bad or is loosly connected. O2 sensor??? Also check the air filter. Sounds like whatever it is, is making the truck run rich----that would be the black smoke.

Hope this helps

Hard start, rough idle, some black smoke, engine service light on

A scan for trouble codes may point you in the right direction quickly, rather than hit & miss, with replacing parts. Some of the autoparts stores will scan for free, and your right where you need to be to get the right part at the same time.
