Truck has great throttle respons. Runs great when cold after warms up it cuts out trys to die. so far has only died once. This has resulted in poor fuel economy. Everything as far as tune up is new still no change.

I would check the IAC or idle air control valve located in the throttle body of the engine. It looks like a big nut with black plastic in center and a wire on it. They get gummed up with carbon and become erratic remove and spray with carb cleaner. hope this helps please rate me

I would pull the air filter cover while it's running and verify the fuel is not leaking around the fuel injector pods. I have had the same problem. The tork screws which hold the pod cover will loosen. Causing fuel to be released into the throttle body. Only affects a warm engine at idle. Plus terrible fuel mileage.

Hello. I have the same problem with my 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. I took it to the dealership the first time because it sounded like an airplane was taking off in the engine. They changed the fan clutch and that stopped that problem. However, I'm now dealing with the stalling and truck going dead at stop lights. I took it to the dealership AGAIN and they said it was the THROTTLE BODY that needed to be cleaned out...WRONG! I'm still having the same problem with it stalling and stopping. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fuel injector or something of that nature. I even went to a higher octane fuel and put gas treatment in my truck which helped for a couple days but now it's back to it's old ways. So many people are getting on here and saying it's the throttle body but I can tell you that was not my problem. I'm taking it back to the dealership next week sometime and will know more then.

SOURCE: Rough idle

I had the same exact problem on my 2004 Colorado (3.5L). Cleaned the MAF sensor (with MAF sensor cleaner) and throttle body/plate - cleared it right up.

SOURCE: rough idle then stalls

Vacume leak or bad idle motor. With the car in park and running with the hood open listen for leaks moving your hand around the different hoses looking for a change in the sounds that you hear. The idel motor also makes the car idel up to 1500 RPM or so right at start-up then idel down, If it doesn;t the idel motor is likly. Check engine light is on when running? Test for codes, Follow code test charts don't skip any steps!.

Car and Light Truck Engine Stalls-all fuel injected gas engines

Here are the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

I am a Ford tech (35 years) and this is the cause of the problem in about 90% of the cars I see with this problem.

Stalls after getting gas then starts fine. Also noticed it idles rough at other times. No trouble codes. Any thoughts?

When it stalls after getting gas, are you filling the tank up beyond the first stop? I was filling mine up after the pump shuts itself off in order to top it off as much as possible. I learned this can plug some type of purge vent or something like that. I stopped topping it off and haven't had a problem since. Mine would hesitate and then die at the first couple stop lights after getting gas. From what I've read, the cheap fix is not to fill it up past the stop point, but the permanent fix is to replace the gas tank since the vent physically part of the tank.

Rough idling and poor fuel economy on 92ford f-150

This whole problem is most likey due to a sludged up intake and idle speed control valve, do the following procedure and it should take care of the problems, also run a couple of cans of LUCUS brand fuel injector cleaner through, I know u will see it is more expensive than other brands, but the thing is it works!
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls at stops and low erratic idle speed and rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake
