Question about 2003 GMC Yukon

Open Question

2003 yukon battery isn't dead, but keeps resetting itself while not in use. Sometimes drains down to where it won't start, but usually just resets clock. Also, when starting the starter sometimes sounds like it stays engaged too long. Could it be a short?

SOURCE: 2001 GMC Sierra, 4.8 occasionally wont start.

sounds like starter solenoid, try cycling the ignition on start on start repeatly but do not go back to the off position off on start will activate the fuel pump repeatly and might flood it,with a faulty solenoid you can usually cycle the ignition repeatly and it will finally engage the starter

SOURCE: 2003 GMC Yukon - fuel pump

Check your ECM fuse. There should be 2 fuses for your ECM. It's the ECM that controls the function of the fuel pump. Good luck friend and it's also common for the wire harness from the frame to the fuel pump to go bad due to corrosion from the bad weather we get in the winter and rainy spring and fall.

SOURCE: Speedometer not working properly

There was not a recall, but there was a class action settlement where GM agreed to extend the warranty on certain vehicles for this problem. Check www.gmspeedometerrecall.com to see if you qualify.

SOURCE: have a 2003 yukon turn the key and sometimes it

Yes it could. The start solenoid has a large washer that has to make contact to flow the current the starter needs. Over time it gets covered with carbon and burn marks. These will eventually get so bad that they dont conduct the current necessary to make the starter crank. Technically you can just replace the solenoid but most shops wont and will insist that it is better to replace the whole starter. In many cases the labor will be the same and slightly more perhaps to repair the solenoid then to just replace the starter.
As you can see though either will fix the problem.

Lost power in engine, engine light on traction on and radio and gauges dont work , battery keeps draining on a 2003 gmc yukon

If there is no power in your car more than likely it has to do with your car battery being dead try and jump it. Good luck!

Battery going dead when truck is not running

If the battery isn't over 4 years old, then you
have to pull one fuse at a time or put an amp
meter in series with either battery cable to see
where the drain is.

Some Module may not be timing out or there is
a problem with the alternator

Every vehicle is wired different ,simply can't give you
a specific cause, has to be tested in the proper way
to stop the problem

Car wont start, seems like battery went dead

If the car doesn't start with a jump you might have a bad alternator. The alternator supplies voltage to the car once the engine is running. If the battery is dead, and the alternator isn't putting out sufficient voltage, the engine cannot run. Then again sometimes a car with an extremely dead or internally shorted battery WON'T start with a jump. Replace the battery and try again.

My 2001 Chevy Suburban won't start at times. I remove the cables from the battery and put them back on at it will start sometimes. Other times it requires a jump. It's random. I also noticed...

your battery is being drained ,, check the plug in for the towing light hook up , something is shorted across ,, clean and tighten all connections to the battery ,, once the vehicle is running,, check the posts with a meter, you should get a reading of 13.5-14.5 volts, if not your alternator isn't doing its job

check the bulb on your left signal, sometimes its hard to see a broken filament, as for your battery ,, with the battery fully charged check for a voltage of 12-12.5 volts DC,, then start your F150 ,, check the battery posts again. you should see a reading of 13.5 to 14.5 which will tell you your alternator is working correctly. if it is,, you may have one dead cell or more in the battery itself that isn't being charged quickly enough to keep up with the needs of the vehicle. If you have a walmart near you, they will do a battery check for free and usually takes about an hour, (note) if the bulbs check out ok, your turn signal switch is more than Likely bad) Please take a moment to rate my reply Good Luck Thanks

Something is draining the battery, or either the alternator isn't putting out to keep the battery charged. A local shop can usually check it for free and let you know if it's the alternator. The other is a shortage somewhere which will be a pain to trace down.

Needs a jump every day

It sounds like the battery has a dead cell in it. Replace the battery. If you have an alarm installed remove the in line fuse from the alarm and see if that stops the battery drain.
