What is the timing specs for a 97 toyota celica 2.2 engine

Cylinder #1 at top dead center. Mark on the camshaft gear is straight up,as referenced to engine. Note that the engine tilts to the rear so reference the flat line of the head for 12'oclock positioning of cam timing mark.Distributor rotor points to #1 cylinder. If you have crankshaft pulley off, and can see the timing mark there, it should be straight down with #1 at TDC. After reassembly, start engine and jumper E1 and TE1 in the diagnostics box. This gives a smooth steady idle. Use timing light pointed at crankshaft pulley and hooked to #1 cylinder spark plug wire to check. Loosen distributor's 2 mounting bolts enough to turn it. Adjust as necessary. If you are having trouble seeing the notch on the crank pulley, get a white paint pen to increase it's visibility. Reference the rotating pulley mark to the stationary mark on the lower timing belt cover.

Im trying to get the timing marks aligned and dont know where to align them to. Its my neighbors car and he doesnt have a service manual. Someone else tried replacing the timing belt for him and didnt...

with the timing belt on the vehicle install the botton piece of the timing cover with crank pulley. line up the notch on the crank pulley with 0 on the timing cover for top dead center on the crank. then there is a small sight hole in the spokes on the camshaft timing gear. with the belt off the timing gear line up that sight hole with a notch behind the gear on the cylinder head. you will only be able to see the notch through the sight hole with a mirror. once these are lined up slide the belt back on the timing gear and recheck afterward. this the procedure for all 5s-fe motors

My 99 toyota Celica convertible top does not respond. I replaced the motors a year ago and have used them oly a coupel fo time. How can I get the top up?

My '95 Toyota Celica has a switch in the trunk (behind a square pull out tab). The switch says "Manual" on it. I have the switch set on manual and then raise the top with the little handle in the center. But be gentle with it. The top has cast aluminum parts that can break if you pull too hard and force it. I'm guessing your '99 Celica has an identical setup.

How to set a timing belt

Factory timing for all 90-93 normally aspirated Celicas (ST, GT, and GT-S) is 10º before top dead center (BTDC). This means when the crankshaft angle of the number one cylinder reaches 10º, the spark plug will fire. It fires before it reaches top dead center (TDC) because the flame front takes time to fully combust and push the piston downward. this site might help u .
