Go to checker and have them run the code for check engine light. it will probably come up as a lean code bank 1 or/and bank 2. on my x-type it was an o-ring in the intake that was cracked mechanic found it with by spraying carb and choke cleaner around the intake components.the shaking.... if it occurs at higher rpms is your car being in limp home mode i think about 3000 rpms will go away when intake problems are solved. car cutting off ? take it jag maybe a weak fuel pump, clogged jet pump or clogged fuel filter just did all of the above to my 02 x-type 3.0 sport w/ 75,000 miles.

I have a jeep cherokee limited and sometimes when I got to start it, it shakes a little and then I get a burnt smell from the engine

check that the smell is not from the o2sensor wires burning on the exhaust system. This will also give other problem indications.

Are you able to determine where the fuel smell is coming from ? This is usually an indicator of a fuel leak. Why did you have to change the catalytic converter ? Is this the smell you are talking about ? Exhaust fumes are different smell from fuel leaks.

I think my optispark is going out but not for sure. The car will start up but will not allow WOT it will cut out or die then is hard to start back. The service engine light will stay on until it sets for...

That rotten egg smell is unburnt fuel in the exhaust. I am no expert in ignition systems but i have heard that optispark systems aren't very hardy. Try replacing the coils, wires, and plugs. If that doesn't work its time for a new distributor.

Your exhaust system is subjected to all kinds of road debris and, depending on where you live, winter road salt. If the hole is in the pipe, a good muffler shop could cut out the bad area and weld in a fresh length of pipe. It it's the muffler, it's a simple muffler replacement. Unless the whole exhaust pipe is bad, don't pay for a whole new pipe. Whatever you decide to do, don't wait too long. The exhaust fuems you smell are only part of the problem. What yo can't smell is carbon monoxide, and it is deadly.

Jaguar 2.7 diseal -s type. when i put my heater

Very common on this car is the EGR valve, it is basically an Exhaust Gas Recycler it reuses the unburnt fumes from the exhaust and pushes them back through the engine to burn again. If this part has failed or has become dirty which is quite often the case on Diesel cars then it would certainly cause the smell in the cab and the ticking.

It's worth mentioning that these can be very expensive around £250 at worst but in most cases you can remove them your self and clean them with carburetter cleaner, don't use anything else though.

Inside the EGR valve is a small sensor not dis similar to that of an air sensor, just spray it with the cleaner leave it to dry naturally and then refit it. if it has worked you will notice the car will feel more responsive to. and the ticking would stop.

Hope this helps
