My Ram recentlystarted running horribly to the point of the engine not even reaching 2000rpms. I was fearing the worst but it turned out to be the catalytic converter stopped up. I fixed it and it runs good as new.

We have a 1998 Dodge Caravan that keeps shutting off when we drive the van for awhile. We can let it sit for 30 miniutes it will start. Do you have any idea what this problem could be?

That's a relatively difficult question to ask without actually seeing the van. However, it could be either a bad catalytic converter or a bad fuel pump. Have you tried letting it sit and idle? Try it at night to see if the cat gets hot. It could be clogged and as it heats up and expands inside it could be restricting the exhaust. Sometimes they'll glow red henceforth trying it at night. They do make a product that is added to the fuel tank that is supposed to help clean it but I've never tried it. Or it may be a faulty fuel pump. When it dies have someone turn on the key and lean down next to it to see if it's working (faint whine)

1998 dodge caravan, shuts off while driving i had it connected to a computer to find out whats wrong they say its erasing the computer in the van so their computer cant find anything wrong, please help

How long can you drive it before it shuts down? There is a crankshaft sensor that can be malfunctioning, or a fuel pump malfunction. If you could give me a little more info I can help.

1998 Dodge Caravan. engine dies and wont start. fuel pump was changed twice but i get a few miles & dies again & wont start. im thinkin fuel filter is plugged....

It might be your fuel filter. Also, Dodge and Chrysler is bad for fuel pump failures. A clogged fuel filter can cause this. Also, you might not be getting enough fuel pressure. There should be a test port on the van, where you can test the gas pressure. You also have a fuel pump relay or switch. This could be bad as well. Hope this helps you.

How to replace the fuel pump on my 1998 pontiac grand am. and what are some problem that indicate that the fuel pump is going out. could it cause the idle to run lower?

If the pump is gong bad -- most of the time as you drive the car will randomly shut off and it gets to doing this more and more. Then if the pump screen and or filter is getting clogged up it will drive normal and slow down then catch back up. shut down and be hard to start then drive normal - slow down - over and over. It sounds more to me like it is a filter starting to need replacement.

Van sputters still and worse then before

I would recommend having the TPS sensor checked as that is the first cause for rough idles and stalls...
