Question about Cars & Trucks
So, ya i just bought a 1986 chevy s10 for my hauling junk vehicle. I'm in the process of fixing it up a little, I paid 600$ for it and there was some problems that i knew of by looking it over. Muffler needs to be replaced and the doors were tilting interiors fairly beat up. The engine runs great that i can tell any ways no noise's runs fine, oil pressure stays at middle of the gauge. The problem i have though is that when i first go to start the thing or lut it sit for a few hours and go back like after work for example i have to turn the key on, not turn the engine over just turn the key on and lut it sit for a minute or 2, you can hear the click of the fuel pump and the engine will turn over and start up. I don't know if it makes a difference or not but it idles really high as an example almost like i had the gas peddle half way to the floor while driving, it will do this for a couple of minutes and then decrease to normal idling. If it makes a difference as well a previous owner had installed a CNG-12 Tank and converter, so it can run on gas and CNG. I have not ran it with any CNG however as theres not any reasonably located stations near my home. Any ideas why it doesn't just start up and i have to do this? I've been over the engine every thing looks fine considering the year and that its nearing 27 years of age. I could give it a tune up and plan to just wondering if this is something serious or not or if anyone's ran into this before? usually i would assume the fuel pumps dieing personally, but the pump clicks on right away and after the first start and or not letting it sit for a few hours it will turn over and start right up.
At that age and the high idling, I would start at the vacuum lines. They are cheap to replace and sometimes they get splits along the length that are hard to see.

sounds like fuel pump pressure. I had the same thing happen to me in a Lincoln mark VII and the electrical connection was shorting out in the fuel pump. I changed the fuel pump..Returned under warranty) put the new one on with filter and had no problem with it.
