it will require the computer to be flashed by the dealer.. have car towed to chevy or gmc dealer and they can have it running right away...the key sends a signal to a security computer to allow the car to start. the two are not communicating to each other...
need to reprogram the security system. turn the key to start position then to run . let the key stay on until the light stops flashing. repeat these steps 3 times then the car should start if there is not a problem with the pass-lock sensor in the ignition switch or the BCM( body control module).
COULD BE A NUMBERS OF THINGS BUT HAVE IT SCAN BY DEALER FOR CODES FIRST
COULD BE A TIME SAVER AND CHEPER IN THE LONG RUN
COULD JUST NEED REPROGRAM OR NEW KEY
IF YOU HAVE YOUR SPARE KEY TRY IT THE NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS TO SEE
Hi, I had the same problem with mine. It is the security feature. turn your key over to acc for 15 min. or until the security light stops blinking, then turn your key off and try to start it, it should work just fine:)
Hi. I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Am. I've had that problem before. All I did was...whenever the security light would flash...and the car wouldn't start...I would take the key out...and just sit there and wait for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then the red light would stop flashing....and the car would start. That would happen about 2 times a year. Now I'm having trouble getting it to start. It's trying to...but won't turn over. My mechanic put a new computer....but now he doesn't know what is wrong. Please help. Thanks.
Turn the key to on. The security ight should be flashing at this point. The key should be turned to on for about 10 mins. The security light will be steady now, the turn off then start it. This re-sets.
You need to set the parking brake, Turn the key on let it sit like that for 10 mins. the sec light will either start flashing or will stay on or go off when done (This will reset) REPEAT 3 times! Then you should be able to start the car after the 3rd time!
Try this. Roll down the drivers side window. Close the door and turn the key to the On position. Don't try to crank the car right now. Leave the key on for ten minutes. After ten minutes turn the key off then try to start the car. This procedure tells the computer that it is not being stolen and it will reset the security system. This should hopefully let your car start. I hope this is helpful.
