sounds more to me like you have a faulty thermostat, is your fan coming on? if not its your thermostat< its not opening when the car gets up to temp allowing the water around the engine into the radiator to cool, if youve no sludge in the oil i would def go for the thermostat, easy way to check take it out and put it in boiling water and watch to see if it opens.

After installion of a new radiator in my 1991 BMW 735i my temp gauge is shooting right up to the red. There is no air in the system and the temp at the thermostat is showing 180 degrees.Replaced the temp...

if the temp guage is going high when engine is cold its the cable attached to the temp sensor touching the body at some point

if the engine is hot see if the radiator fan starts running if not see the cables that are attached to the fan and also see the thermostat

1988 BMW 318i temperature guage flickers between normal temp. through to max temp. Most of the time the guage is 3/4 to Hot. Main fan seems a little loose when hot - not tightening up. Coolant level OK no...

It could be the impellor wearing out on the water pump, though I have not heard of this issue in your make of car, I have seen it first hand in other makes. The thermostat may not be opening up all the way, flow restriction,. The coolant temperture sensor could be going out, and the gauge in the dash could be going out. You could have flow restrictions else where in the engine. Have you ever had the engine flushed? these are the things that I can think of that would make your engine run hotter than normal.

I am having problems with my BMW running hot. What might the problem be?

if it heats up and overheats very quickly , I would say the thermostat is cooked. If it just generally runs at higher than normal temp I would say radiator is pluged up or temp guage or sender is faulty.

My bmw 323i overheats about after 2 hours of driving my heaters work and i dont know why.

check if thermostat is stuck open as too much flow can cause this. start car cold and see how long top radiator hose takes to heat up. shoud stay cold for 3-4 minutes.
if thats ok check thermo fan operation- run can in drive way at idle for 20 + minutes untill fan starts, keep an eye on temp guage.

Temp guage is not reading

I don't think the 2 have been synchronized, i.e. the thermostat and the temp gauge as if they for different manufacturers products. As a result your fan is always running no matter what the engine temp is, so I guess the thermostat is either faulty or it has not been installed properly.....sodeep

If the temperature guage is not working and engine light is on sh

Not really because the thermostat may be fine and the light will still be ON. If the guage is NOT working it will trigger check engine light. First you should fix guage, it probably needs a temperature sensor or sensor wire may be broken. Check it out, good luck.
