Question about 2010 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

Problem with tail lights in 2010 Sebring.

I had the bulbs replaced but they are not always working. I had no tail lights unless the headlight switch is in a certain position. With this age of vehicle I thought the running lights in the rear would come on automatically when I am in gear or even when the car is turned on. Am I wrong? How do I get this fixed? Is it a fuse or some other switch?

you do have daytime runny lights. this is getting good, the daytime running light module is the body control mudule

  • Tamra Dec 10, 2012

So it could be body control module, brake switch or ?? I have it at the shop to be assessed tomorrow, Monday Dec 10. You have helped me understand some of it now. The brake light scome on if it is in gear. and if the light switch is in an 'on' position.

ford and chevy have day time running lights. the tail lights come on in 2 stages . 1 if you turn on the headlights that is the running lights and when you step on the brake pedal

  • Tamra Dec 09, 2012

Ok That helps some. This morning my headlight control lever did not control the lights the same as it has in the past and the dash lights were irratic. I almost feel like their is a malfunction in the control lever of the headlights also. From your answer It sounds like I must have the headlights turned on before I get any tail lights?? I never noticed this in 18 months. I feel like the car is not as visible at night now. Bottom line is this going to be an expensive fix?

  • Tamra Dec 09, 2012

I thought I posted more yesterday ...I think the headlight control switch is acting irratic also. Previous settings are not making the same changes. Any thoughts on that? Is this getting expensive now??

SOURCE: left blinker light stays on solid when headlights are on

I have had this happen and it is rare, but I have had a filiment burn out in a two filment buld and short to the other filiment. It does happen and I think this might be your problem, the only way to find it is a visual inspection of each bulb. I am sure many people will think this is crazy, but I have had the exact same problem, I had the schematics, tested the circuits, etc. and them by accident found a stop/blinker 1157 bulb that had done this exact thing. I hope this helps you, check the bulbs in your headlights also.

Behind the headlight you should see a eletrical wires running to the headlight section. There will be a 2 inch round plastic ring. You grap the back of the bulb and turn it to the right which will release the bulb and the socket. You pull out the bulb and replace it the same way. If this doesnt help then get back to me.

SOURCE: Adjust the headlights on 2005 Sebring, Touring Sedan

The adjustment screws/nuts should be located either on the top of the headlamp assembly, behind the headlamp assembly, or near the frame rail by the radiator support.

You will have vertical adjustment screws for each independent beam (separate highs and separate lows, but will be same screw if highs and lows are the same bulb). You may also have additional horizontal adjustment screws as well

Park your car on a level ground 30 feet from a wall and measure the height from the ground to the bulb and mark on a wall. Also mark where the center of the bulbs would be (do this for highs beams and low beams if the bulbs are separate, if highs and lows are the same bulb, only do it for the lows)

For Low Beams: If the headlights read VOR, then aim the brightest part or cutoff part just below the mark on the wall. If it says VOL or nothing, aim them 2 inches below the mark on the wall. For horizontal, aim the hot spot directly at the line you marked for the center of your bulbs

For High Beams (if separate from low beams): Aim the headlight directly at the line you marked on the wall.

Need to replace headlight lens on a 1996 dodge avenger

Usually, one has to get the entire headlight assembly to replace the lens.
Is it cracked?
If it is just faded, try some anti-haze polish for headlights. This can save you some money compared to restoring the headlamp by replacing the assembly (which may be available from a salvage yard).

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

CAUTION
Halogen bulbs contain gas which is under
pressure. Handling the bulbs incorrectly could cause it to shatter into flying
glass fragments. Do NOT leave the light switch ON. Always allow the bulb to cool
before removal. Handle the bulb only by the base; avoid touching the glass
itself. Whenever handling a halogen bulb, ALWAYS follow these precautions:

  • Turn the headlight switch OFF and allow the bulb to cool before
changing it. Leave the switch OFF until the change is complete.
  • ALWAYS wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
  • Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
  • DO NOT drop or scratch the bulb.
  • Keep dirt and moisture away from the bulb.
  • Place the used bulb in the new bulb's package and dispose of it properly.

Cirrus, Stratus, Sebring Convertible and Breeze

  1. Open the vehicle's hood and secure it in an upright position.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the 2 screws securing the headlight module to the radiator closure
    panel.
  4. Pull out the headlight module from the vehicle.

  5. Detach the headlight electrical connector.
  6. Remove the retaining ring holding the bulb to the back of the headlight
    module.
  7. Pull the bulb from the back of the headlight module. Hold the bulb by its
base only; try not to touch the glass itself.
    To install:

  8. Holding the bulb by the base, place it in the headlight module, then secure
    with the retaining ring.
  9. Attach the electrical connector to the bulb.
  10. Install the headlight module into the vehicle and tighten the 2 retaining
    screws.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable and check the headlight operation.

Sebring Coupe and Avenger

  1. Open the vehicle's hood and secure it in an upright position.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the sealing cover by rotating it counterclockwise.
  4. Remove the bulb attaching spring and pull out the light bulb.

There should be a switch on the dash or the headlamp switch. they will only work on LOW BEAM. it is possible that both bulbs can be bad.

What started this mess? tailights, fog lights, brake lights....

The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. There's a nut holding it in place, see http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/electrics/switches/switch-headlight/1027524/ to get an idea of the construction. And the price. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...
In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.

Good luck

Dash lights, tail lights, brake lights, not working 1965 mustang

Probably either a bad ground (broken wire, rust) or a bad headlight switch. The brake light circuit goes from the stop switch (Located up above the brake pedal) through the headlight switch, through the light bulbs to ground. The tail light circuit goes through the headlight switch, through the bulbs and to ground. The only things that are in common are the headlight switch (Is this the switch you replaced?) and ground.
Not much, but hope this helps.
Have a super day!
