SOURCE: Toyota Avalon Rear View Mirror

Hi-,
I had the same problem - the inside rear view mirror fell off during a hot summer day. I bought the mirror glue (adhesive) and wondered how to I separate the metal button from the mirror. Enventally, I tried the following and successully separated the metal button from the mirror: There is a little squre slot on the plastic sheath of the metal button. Please find a small flat-ned screw driver whose tip can fit into the sqare hole. put the screw driver into the hole and put it all the way inside down - which will open a little bended metal piece that stops the buttom; at the mean time, slide the metal button towards outside. As the bended metal piece opened uder the pressure of the screw driver, the metal button is freely moveable and can be slide out.
I did this successfully for my Toyota Avalon 1998 car.

Hope it helps.

You have to start by removing the seat bottom, this will allow you to remove the seat back, then you can get the the fasteners that hold the rear deck in. Once it is out of the way you should be able to remove the woofer..

My radio works but no sound is coming out

Avalons had a sound amplifier, when the sound fail the amplifier is bad, the only thing that can disable the amplifier is a short speaker, look this is a common problem a customer puts lots of stuff in the trunk while driving hits a bump one of the box jumps and smash the post of the rear speakers both terminals touch each-other creating a short. somebody working any door replacing a window motor and accidentally creates a short in a speaker. rarely there is a bad connection at the amplifier created by corrosion, just connect and disconnect the amplifier connectors, the amplifier is located behind the glove box is a silver box with 2 connectors the computer is there to that is silver and has 6 or more connectors.

I have a 2000 toyota avalon and the woofer speaker is buzzing and crackling. a new speaker is $300. is there another replacement beside a stock jbl? will another speaker (cheaper) fit?

I bought a refoam kit from Midwest Speaker Repair - found them on eBay. Cost $23.50, including shipping. Had it in two days. Very easy prep and installation. I think the subwoofer sounds better than new, but I could be wrong. Best way to go. Worth every penny.
