Sounds like it maybe your linkage have you ever had any work done on your ****** just a small adjustment can cause a lot of problems also there is a sensor that tells your car wether the brake is ingaged or not when putting it into park sometimes those sensors go bad

The gear-shifter solenoid or brakelight switch has failed.

To check the brakelight switch, start the car and step on the brake. If the brakelights don't come on, the switch is faulty. You'll find the switch under the dashboard above the brake pedal.

If the brakelights came on, your shifter solenoid is probably bad. In this case, here's a quick-and-dirty fix to get you moving...

Look for a small plastic cover next to the gear shift. Pop this off with a fingernail or small flat screwdriver. There will be a hole beneath the cover. Push a small screwdwiver down that hole untill you feel some resistance. You should now be able to shift out of park.

Be warned...this trick allows a shift even without touching the brake. So get the solenoid fixed as soon as you can.

Good luck !

You may want to check the gear lock mechanism. This is the one that prevents you from moving from park when you accidentally hit the lever. If that checks out ok, you may want to inspect the linkages of the shifter to the transmission.

Most common reason is that your ignition switch is too fussy. Spray some WD-40 on the key and then insert it and turn it on. Repeat a few times if necessary. J.

My 2005 Forenza will not shift ot of park unless I put the key in the shift lock. How do I fix this problem?

you have to take it to a suzuki certified repair place and have the brake module replaced. I had the same problem and that's what it was. By the way you probably don't have brake lights...I didn't when i had that problem
