Water pump leak..I have a 2004 dodge stratus

I used a temporary leak stopper and its been fine for a month and all of a sudden it stopped on me today. I know I have to replace the water pump I was just wondering how hard it would be to do, the mechanic are asking for hundreds of dollars when the pump is only 80.00 has anyone ever done this?

    Hello

Is your dodge a 4 or 6 cylinder?

    Thanks

the amount they charge for labour is a good indication of how hard it is to do. you will likely need a new heater core soon as well because stop leak tends to plug it up.

Hi Jess!
Contrary to my collegues remark?
You obviously seem to have an interest in the mechanical side of your vehicle and want a repair like anyone done professionally and as cheaply as possible.
So try a reputeable workshop with references for a quote? I'm across the pond U.K. so would love to come and repair your vehicle BUT costing doesn't appraise from amount??
So get some local quotes!
You possibly will not need a heater matrix/core just a good flush! please let me know how things pan out? (Sorry about pun!)

I have replacing a lot of parts on the coolant system. Today I drove approx 8 miles round trip and when I stopped the reservoir was boiling.

Hi Brenda, first check the thermostat, could be not opening all the way,or your water pump is bad and not circulating to keep engine cool. You can do more looking,go to wear water pump is and see if you see coolant any where or leaks on pavement below while parked.

CHECK ANTIFREEZE IN RADIATOR.IF LOW ADD COOLANT.CHECK FOR LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES AND WATER PUMP HOSE.ALSO CHECK RADIATOR FOR LEAKS.IF ALL GOOD NO RADIATOR LEAKS.REPLACE THERMOSTAT.IF STILL OVER HEATS AFTER REPLACING THERMOSTAT .CHECK COOLING FANS FOR OPERATION AND COOLANT SENSOR.ALSO CHECK TO MAKE SURE WATER PUMP WEEP HOLES IS NOT LEAKING.BECAUSE A BAD WATER PUMP CAUSES OVERHEATING ALSO.

My 2004 dodge stratus won't steer

Well it's one of three things:
1. The fluid has leaked out and you should check for leaks and check the fluid level.
2. If the level is fine your power steering pump could be bad.
3. If the level is fine your rack and pinion could be bad.
