Could be a faulty sensor. If the light stays on for more than a few seconds you should be able to get the body computer scanned for trouble codes to find the problem.

With some makes and models this is normal. The PCM will reduce engine power when the traction control senses wheel slip as a safety precaution until traction is restored

First thing is to check the abs for trouble codes so you know what to start testing.

sounds like failed wheel speed sensors. you can get around this by turning off traction control until you can get em fixed. If you hold in the the traction control button, it should shut the system down

the TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM is to stop the driven wheels from spinning on excessive acceleration, which would normally result in loss of traction from one or both wheels, like the abs but in reverse.

No you don't need any transmission work, the parts you listed are part of that. You either have a bad wheel speed sensor or more likey a bad connection at one of the sensors. Sometimes the cables get damaged. The cables are supposed to remain flexible but sometimes the wires inside break. These cables go from the wheel speed sensors and feed information to the ABS system.

2000 V6 Lincoln LS

Problem solved. Recently we put newer tires on the rear which are a lower profile than the front. Don't ask. The point is, aside from the typical oil leaking into the plugs problem, the problem was caused by the rear wheels spinning faster than the front once at the higher speed. Traction control turns off the fuel injection. All is fine now that the front and rear are switched.
