Doing 55mph lost power got home found that number 2 and 4 cylinders not fireing changed plugs and wires still not fireing is it my fuel rail

No smell of fuel but idles fuel rail is off of an impulse

My first question would be - do you know for a fact the plugs are firing ?

It could be a coil or crank sensor problem.

hey thanks for bringing me up to speed. ive been working on many other problems but with your great explanation i remember.
we need to check the compression on that cyl. and compare it to the compression on 2 other cylinders your choice.
but before you do this get a can of carb cleaner . and with the car idling spray around the intake manifold in the area of #6 cyl. what we are looking for is a small vacuum leak that would also act like this. with the engine idling and spraying around the intake the engines idle sould not change and if it does when you spray you have an intake leaking.

1- check there is spark come from spark wires
2- check the fire timing by looking for every wire in the right place
3- check there is injector signl
4- check for any vacuom leak
5- try to clean the MAF by brake and parts cleaner
6- try to reset all the code and see what will come after that

I had this problem too exept I have no clue what parts or blah b;ah blah. I just know that my coil pack was getting fried.burnt out because my wires were bad. The mechanic I went to was a moron because I took the car to him 3 times and he kept saying it was the coil ad kept replacing it. I took it to my uncle and he said my wires were in horrible shape and when this is the problem it fries your coil making your car run like a lawn mower! Well all i did was replace my wires and the car ran great! Well I hope this helped..

I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5/9 in it I put plug wires on it and now it's popping and it lost power and it had a code po302 and Po 307


The P0302 code means that the cylinder 2 is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks and if no leaks are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs on cylinder 2. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done. PO307 is the same thing except number 7 cylinder. Possible symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/loss of power
- Hard start
- Engine hesitation

Number 1 &4 cylinders won't fire changed the coil, plugs and wires but still won't fire.


check power and ground and signal voltage at the coil electrical plug. chances are your missing one of them.

no engine stated, ?? which one? 4AFE or 7Afe (TOY ENGINE)
the harness will not allow cross wiring injectors
how did you do that?
the #1 injector is on #1 cylinder
and on #1 fuel rail port.
the #1 cylinder on inline engines, the crank pulley end.
if you need wire colors, we can do that too.
or log in to mitchells DIY and read. that.
here is the 7aFE wires
B-O is 12vdc power key on, the ECU fires the 4 on right.

Dead cylinder number 2 bad injector number 2


use a digital volt meter,put it on the ohm scale check number 2 fuel injector should be 11 to 16 ohms if not reads zero fuel injector faulty.if numbe 2 fuel injector okay.use noid light hook it to fuel injector electrical connector with fuel injector disconnected and see if pcm is firing the fuel injector noid light should blink when cranking the engine.if light steady pcm not firing 2 fuel injector,if noid light dont light up.there is a open in the wiring connector 2 fuel injector 2. if fuel injector okay,check spark plug, carbon foul you have a bad ignition coil or wire if you see oil on spark plug you have worn piston ring or leaking valve guides allowing oil to foul out spark plug.do a compression test check compression to see condition of the cylinder.

Try switching those plug wires with ones that are firing, if the miss fire transfers to those two plugs, then it's the plug wires.
I say that cause you didn't mention anything about changing plug wires. You changed eveything else.
You also didn't mention what engine you have. If cylinders 1 and 2 are adjacent to each other, take a compression test on them, if it's lower than about 150 to 160 psi then the head gasket is blown between those two cylinders.

One thing to check is the fuel pressure regulator.
If the diaphram is leaking it will cause gas to be pulled into the vacuum system causing lots of white smoke and extreme rough running.

How is the pressure in the fuel rail? a low pressure will cause erratic firing of the injectors - the further down the rail u get usually the worse the problem. If the fuel filter was not changed regularly or if the vehicle stood for a while, dirty fuel/standing fuel at some time in the recent past, this **** will accumulate in tyhe injectors. To avoid spending a loada cash, swap a few injectors around and see if the problem moves with the injector.
