You have to take the tire and wheel off first.then you have to take the brakes loose from the side you are working on.the caliper and all has to be taken loose and you can let it hang to the side out of harms way, theres a center cap you have to take out you have to tap it outwards with a hammer until it comes out.it will or should be full of grease.you should now see a large nut and in front of the nut is a kotter pin you have to remove.once the pin is out of the way you unscrew the nut and pull the rotor off.it goes back together the same way.in reverse

Have a 1997 Ford Escort and I am trying to get the front discs (rotors) off. On every other vehicle I have worked on, once the wheel is off, remove the calipre (Yep! done that) ..... sharp tap and the...

This Brake disc/rotor should come off without having to undo the drive shaft nut. Try using penetrating oil and failing this, My last resort to corroded brake discs is an angle grinder and a chisel. Makes short work of them !! Just make sure the new ones are the correct part before you attack the old ones ! Good luck

Grinding of front brakes on a 98 Ford escort. What does it mean and what is the cost for the possible repairs

You need a front brake job based on what your discription.
The grinding noise indicates you've worn through the pads and more than likley have damaged the rotors.
It will run approx. $250.00 to have it done by a professional, or do it yourself in the $100.00 range.

How do you remove the front passenger hub on a 98 escort. I wrenched on the nut, but it won't loosen

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Front Brakes
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Unfasten the disc brake caliper retaining bolts.
  4. Remove the disc brake caliper and secure the caliper aside with mechanic's wire. Do not disconnect the brake hose.
  5. Pull the brake rotor from the hub.
  6. Inspect the rotor and refinish or replace, as necessary. If refinishing, the minimum thickness rotor thickness is stamped on the brake rotor.
  7. To install:
  8. Place the brake rotor to the hub. Make sure the mating surfaces are free of rust which may prevent the brake rotor from seating properly.
  9. Remove the mechanic's wire and position the brake caliper.
  10. Install the brake caliper retaining bolts to specification.
  11. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Pump the brake pedal several times to position the brake pads before moving the vehicle.
  14. Road test the vehicle and check the brake system for proper operation.

It sounds like your hub/rotor is froze on....you'll need to apply some penetrant in the lug stud areas as wells as the area where the rotor mates to the axle hub.

How do you change the front rotors on a ford escort Zx2?

1) Remove tires
2) Remove 2 bolts that hold on the caliper (+ brake pads).
3) Remove hub grease cap (should just pop off)
4) Once the cap is removed, you'll see a large nut on the shaft with a pin through it. Remove pin and nut... the rotor will come off along with front bearing.

Brake Rotor Replacement Ford Escort 1997

The rotor is not held on by the big nut, it slides on and off, only the wheel holds it on, the clearance between the rotor and the front hub which the large nut holds on is very small, rust forms and the rotor gets stuck, use a hammer or a large piece of wood if you plan to reuse the rotor and hit it from side to side, spray penetrating oil to loosen the rust, it is a bugger but it will come loose, then make sure to wire brush all the rust off or wheel retention may be compromised.

2002 Ford Escort front brake rotors - removal

the first thing i will recomend you, is ti buy the new rotors first,
sisnce you did not mention if you allready have the new ones
and see if they are slide out type rotorss or one piece rotor assy
with the lugn nuts, sometimes they just slide out but sometimes you need to remove the center big nut in order to remove them.
