2001 mustang gt on expressway wouldn't go into passing gear engine race high pulled over put in park then worked

Check level and condition of your transmission fluid. If your transmission fluid is turning brown or if your vehicle has not had a transmission fluid and filter change in 5 years or 50,000 miles, do that right away before you fry your transmission.

What kind of fluid goes in a manual transmission and where?

The fill plug will be on the side of the transmission. The plug can only be removed with a 3/8 ratchet (it has a 3/8" square hole in the center).

usually a gear lube like 80/90 or 75/90 is used in manual gear boxes.

Changed transmission fluid and filter on 2001 mustang now it will not move while it is in Drive

Well..., then just sit in the driver's seat and make noises like as if you're really driving it (ha,ha)sorry, just needed to put a smile on your face. Anyways,when/IF transmission converter is emptied,it needs to refill fully as it makes mechanisms(valves,so on)work to make the car move;now that is IF it was drained from also there. If you drained the fluid from the transmission pan(drain plug),changed the filter PROPERLY INSTALLED,refilled 2 thirds while engine off then running safely in PARK (parking brake on)fill to recommended amount checking with dipstick ,while in the car with brake pedal on,put in drive-neutral-reverse to make transmission's mechanisms make operation until car starts making a movement, then it should be okay. Are you sure you didn't nock something out of place, like linkage for gear changes??. Does the car make any noises when shifting gears??make a clunk noise??does it try to move??;need to know more details for someone to understand and find problem.

Check your engine mounts and transmission mounts and make sure that they are good and strong, if not then you will need to replace them.

Yes i would like to know how to flush transmission fluid on 1998 ford mustang?

Flushing transmission fluid in any vehicle requires a machine that hooks into the systems via the transmission coolant lines and forces new fluid in and old fluid out.

You can change the fluid, without flushing the system, by removing the transmission pan.It is located on the bottom if the motor. Let all the fluid drain out, and replace the pan with a new gasket. You can then refill the fluid.

Good Luck!!

1966 mustang will not shift up when driving.

The transmission probably needs a basic maintenance, try changing the transmission filter and fluid, this may clear the problem right up.Check the fluid t see if its a reddish brown color and cloudy,if it is its time to be changed.

Where is the top motor on the convertible? mustang 2001

My 2001 mustang had the same problem. The fluid is low in the pump. The pump is located behind the rear seatback. Easy to get to. Google removal if you cant figure it out. Once you get to the pump, there is a rubber plug in the end of the pump. Remove the pump from its rubber mounts and stand it on end. remove the plug and fill it with Mercon transmission fluid. Replace the plug and the pump and then run the top several times to get the air out and your done. There is probobly some slight seepage on one of the pistons that raise and lower the top, but I didnt see any leaks on mine and will deal with that later if the problem comes back. Good Luck
