The check engine light gets power from the PCM - there is a PCM relay that gets power from a 10amp fuse number 6 and a 30amp fuse number 10 in the fuse box next to the battery. This can also affect the coil.

I had same problem on my 2002 explorer. Its either the computer module, or the electric solenoid on the transfer case. In my case it was both. The computer module I had done twice in 14 months.

Check the fuse panel first, after that check your fuse relays under the hood, if not then it might be a wiring problem.

have the crank sensor check for erratic operation. if you have done all of that then there is nothing else. and they way the computer knows it is misfiring (if it is) false code maybe and could be bad crank sensor. good luck

I received a check engine code indicating cyl 8 misfire. Replaced the common problem coil and no change. Spark plug is new. Engine run past 3000 RPM and starts to sputter. What can it be?

If you replaced the coil pack, plug wire, and injectors, then you have compression problem in clyinder 8, and your rings are bad, even though you may not see any smoke ...

Misfire p0303

Check wiring harness around and including plug to the coil pack. Also check fuel pressure with vehicle running. I'm not sure of the specs but, Iit should be around 35 to 40 psi. at idle, and 50 to 75 at higher RPM's. I've seen Fords run with a bad fuel pump and demonstrate these exact symptoms

I have no power going to the coil pack of my ford explorer xlt 6 cyl 4.0 L

Now you will need a repair shop with wiring diagrams
& the ability to use them correctly, to find & resolve
whatever happened with a possible damaged wire &
I assume, short to ground.

You need to see if you have spark or injector pulse
when cranking,if so your crank sensor is okey

Next check ALL Vehicle fuses

Then test for damaged drivers in the ignition module,
may get lucky & it will be okey

Repair the wire prolbem

Number five plug not firing

I'm assuming this is a DIS(distibutorless ignition system). If it is,the most common cause is a defective coil pack. Each coil will fire a pair of cylinders together on 4 and 6 cylinder engines(one "waste" spark, one to ignite the mixture).Try swapping the wires at the coil pack to see if the misfire follows the coil tower,or the same cylinder misfires(keep in mind that a check engine light means you will have to clear the code to get the computer to feed that cylinder fuel before you start it up again). If the other cyl on the pack now misfires(i believe 1+5 are on the same pack on a Ford engine),then the coil is bad(spark is "leaking"to ground). If the same cyl still misfires, try swapping a wire+plug from another cylinder.

1996 Ford explorer 6 cyl. shakes at 45-50 mph

If the engine is misfiring and that is the source of the shaking then the check engine light will be flashing like crazy, other wise it is not the engine causing this, I know was a Ford tech for 25 years.

Hi, could someone help me with the firing order of a 1990 Chevy Lumina power pack, please. Thanks

You didn't say what size engine you have, 4cyl. or 6 cyl.
The 4 cyl. is--- 1-3-4-2
The 6 cyl 3.1 is---- 1-2-3-4-5-6----- on the coil pack under the exhaust manifold is----- 1-4-6-3-2-5. If neither of these doesn't work, then you have a different engine.
