Fluid and filter will not result in loss of just one gear...yes your going to have to take the tranny out and get it overhauled or replaced

Toyota corolla problems

After checking the easy stuff first like low oil level, if it is high RPM(revs) & shifts hard(lurch when it does shift) then I am thinking the transmission filter & oil need to be changed. The transmission filter acts as a suction screen on an automatic transmission & as it collects contaminants to protect the inner workings of the transmission, it becomes plugged which greatly affects the ability to shift especially the high gears at faster acceleration.

700r4 transmission, my transmission is doing high rpm before shifting up from 1st gear, but with no slippage in any gear, rest of the upshifts are firm.BUT, on kickdown from 3 to 2.gear its going as i

I don't know if this will help, but i set my tranny up to shift hard like you are describing. Just by putting a clip on the kick down cable. The book talks about this, its cool if you like that sort of thing?

Best way to access screen on CD4E FWD/AWD Transmission

You got issues other than filter or screen worries

Screens don't clog on a completely wasted & burnt
out unit & material filters don't clog enough to cause
issues

You need someone that knows that unit to diagnose it

I would check bulletins & other internet sites
Ford has some really bad transaxles & I haven't
checked the CD4E for you

I used to own a trans shop & to be honest, I really
don't want to know,as I don't get a good feeling,
I will leave that up to you to research

I do know if you using any trans with issues your on
life support & need you check book handy

I have a 1986 chev 4x4 need trany for it it has overdrive with th700. What kind of trany can i put in my truck do i need overdrive or will a 1993 down fit on it or not thanxs

You don't need overdrive but you will miss it when it's gone. The majority of transmission swaps are from 3 speeds to an OD transmission. The 700R4 is also a physically bigger transmission. So a swap to a TH400 or 350 would require tailshaft mount & driveshaft mods. Also the shift linkage is mounted in a different spot. It can all be done, the question is, is it worth it? Hope this helps.

What all could keep my 700r4 from shifting from 2nd into 3rd gear. For a while it would shift into 3rd when I got up to 55 mph pr so and it would make a real slow transition when it did. Any ideas?

First thing I would do is trans fluid & filter change. It should be done every 50k and sooner if you tow. Sounds like your filter is partially clogged.

700R4 automatic transmission won't upshift

Check the TV cable, it may need to be adjusted or it may be binding and jammed. There could also be a problem with a broken governor gear since it's made of plastic, driver's side near the back of the main case under a round case. If it's is the governor gear replace it with the roll pin and filter just to make sure there are no broken parks that may have been caught by the filter. Good luck and hope this helps.
