Just a week ago the truck started spitting and sputtering when i started it and sometimes when I was driving it... Now it won't start. I changed the fuel filter , the engine turns over , but will not start... A amber light showing the engine stays lit.... I disconnect the battery so as to allow the computer to re-set but still will not start. What could be wrong...Please advise.. Thank you. Dave in Kentucky...

I chased this problem on a 2005 Silverado about a week ago, and found the switch assy to be inop. This one would stay on hot when you started the engine, then wouldnt modulate when commanded. Sometimes it would change itself while driving. Replaced the switch with a junk-yard peice for 35.00 and its fine now.
I have the same problem on my 95 grand cherokee laredo. Sometimes it starts out fine and after about 10 miles it starts spitting and sputtering. Then after a while it seems to clean out and run fine again for a little while. Then other times it starts out spitting and sputtering at the begining. I changed the fuel filter and that was not it. It is a 4.0L 6cyc. Any Ideas?
i would have to take an educated guess and say its the fuel pump, but the first thing to do is chk. fuel pressure if pump runs, canyou hear it when you turn the key to the on position? if not chk. fuse if thats ok, chk. relay should be under hood. turn key on and listen for a click if you hear a click than relay is working, but its not the same for fuel pump they can sound like there running but it might not be putting out any pressure thats ware fuel pressure chk. comes in. now if fuel pressure chks. out ok than its most likely electrical. if you know of someone around your area that would scan the computer for you would help, sense you said chk.engine light was on, might give you a good idea whats up.
Many thinks it is the intake manifold gaskets... i will change mine this week-end and i'll keep you guys posted. i had the same codes as above with the coils and it still sputters. so i am going foe the vaccume leaks before the expensive repairs.
