Question about 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Open Question

Is there a relay on the transfer case actuator , and where is it located. on a 2006 Grand Cherokee.

I replaced the transfer actuator with a new one , the service four wheel system still shows after a diagnostic reset was done , is it possible that a relay was burnt.

SOURCE: Service 4 wheel drive

The service 4 wheel drive light comes on because there's a problem. The biggest causes of this I've seen are a software glitch in the final drive control module which the dealer can fix by reprogramming and the other is usually the electric actuator on the front axle housing. The only light that comes on by a timer is the one that says, "perform service" in your overhead console or odometer.

SOURCE: Quadra Trac II 4 wheel drive problem

Oil is added to transfer case through a plug usually located about half way up the back of the case.
When making a diagnosis, a good tech relies upon previous experience matching that to known symptoms, then upon teardown to verify his ideas. A good working knowledge is essential so the tech can picture in his mind what is happening inside the unit.(i once knew an old tech who could sit in the shop office and make a correct diagnosis as another tech drove a vehicle into the shop) That's rare, but there are good people out there! Your coupler may have to be removed, but that largely depends upon what the shop sees and feels.
Good luck

Stuck in four wheel drive

Hi there:This is a common issue on this model vehicle quite a few times is the transfer case electric shift actuator can fail/short and when this happens it shorts out the 4wd computer internally making it to where both the actuator on the transfer case and the 4wd computer need replaced.

First, before to change or replace some parts, you will need to be done from here is to have the fault codes read out of the 4wd computer with a scan tool that can communicate with this computer, once this has been done then it can be diagnosed as to what is at fault and then repaired from there.

Keep in mind that TCCM is a different computer then where you would read fault codes for the transmission, the codes need checked using a scan tool that can read the TCCM. It is located under the center of the dash near the steering column (rigt side I thnik).
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

2000 jeep GC limited front axle problems

First thing to test is to see if the front driveshaft is getting engaged from the transfer case. With the vehicle in 4x4, and engine shut off, and in park, crawl under and try to turn the front driveshaft by hand. The driveshaft looks like a pipe that runs from the transfer case, located just behind the engine/transmission, to the front differential. If it rotates by hand, there is a problem with the transfer case. Some Jeeps have a vacuum actuator on the front diff that slides a collar inside the axle tube to engage it. I will watch for you findings, and you can leave me another message, and I will be happy to chat back with you on your findings.

My 2001 Jeep grand cherokee 4x4 i dont think is working right, whe i put it into 4x4 it goes fine, but when i take it out of 4x4 it takes acouple mile to kick back into 4x2, is this normal

it could be that the change mechanism is sticking. this does not seem normal.
try doing the change from 4x4 to 4x2 while stationary it should switch straight away. if not there is a problem
suspect transmission oil may be low or need replacement.
