1 Answer

2002 PT Crusier Touring Edition just over 100K miles, NO reverse no first gear, Only 2nd gear???

Had cruise control on at 70 mhp, heard loud thud and noticed immediately engine over revving, turnd off cruise control limped it into a gas station, parked checked under car and hood no fluids or anything out of the ordinary. Got back in, no reverse, finally got it pushed back enough to go forward and fond that there is no 1st gear, only 2nd, no 3rd, no overdrive, limped it home. What could be the problem?

For the steering problem first at all check it the fluid level.
For the Transmission, if you recently replaced the fluid this MUST BE a ATF+3. Never use others like Dexron or Mercon. So, first, let me know what kind of fluid you put on in.

SOURCE: location speed sensor pt cruiser 03 touring car do

It sounds like the module is in limp mode. The speed sensor is most likely the cause, but it can be some other things as well. A scan will give a code stating the problem area.

The speed sensors are on the side of the trasmission that faces the front of the vehicle. There are 2 of them, and they are the same sensor. One is an input speed sensor located closest to the engine, the other is the output speed sensor.

2004 PT Cruiser touring edition misfires and the cruise control no longer works. When I shut off engine and restart cruise control works again and car run great. Took it to a machinic and it doesn't do it...

the reason for the misfire and loss of cruise control is because the electrical system has an intermittent power failure . It will be difficult to diagnose in a shop because of the condition that is causing it . Some items are , dangling items on ignition key, loose /dirty battery connections, loose dirty earth connections, alternator drive belt condition /tension , loose fuses, loose ECM wiring fittings , faulty immobiliser, dirt at the cam/crank position sensor. Take it to an accredited shop that can get computer access to the CPU /ECM program and on their laptop they may be able to pinpoint if there is a problem showing

Usually what causes this is your reverse clutch is worn out in the transmission, or there is a bad valve

ROUGH SHIFTING PT CRUISER

Some modern vehicles when change the shift pattern while the engine is cold, by keeping the vehicle in a lower gear for a higher rpm while the engine is cold, the engine warms up faster, to reduce emissions. (Emissions are higher while the vehicle is cold)

What you may be experiencing is that the shift from first to second occurs at a higher rpm when the engine is cold than when warm. This can lead to an abrupt or hard shift. At higher speeds, the shift between gears either may not be changed, or just does not feel as hard as the 1st to 2nd shift.

If this is the case, then your dealer is telling you the truth and there is nothing he can do.

That Thud is the Trasnfer Case for the 4X4. When Gears Break off inside this Transfer Case the Gears are So tightly Fit inside that the Pieces have nowhere to go but into the Other Gears Causing the Thud that you here. This is Causing Further Damage everytime you Here it. I would get the Transfer Case ReBuilt if you need the 4X4 at any time. Please Rate my Response, I need all the Help That I can Get! Thanks!
