SOURCE: 2001 E220 CDI exhaust tail pipe black smoke on acceleration

Black smoke is almost always an indication that the air/ fuel mix (ratio), is too rich. I would try to find out if the just cleaned the injectors or were they replaced. Cleaning injectors and sometimes leave irregularly shaped orifices. Besure the air filter is clean. This can effect mix also.
Good Luck and hope this helps.

Black smoke from exhaust usually means too rich in gas. Ratio of gas and air mixture. Maybe a dirty air filter, bad maf or map sensor. Good Luck

SOURCE: Black smoke coming out of exhaust, only on

Your engine is running "too rich" meaning more gas is going into the chamber than is supposed to. If it is a late model, to need to see your mechanic. FYI , blue smoke is oil, black too much gas, white, antifreeze, (really bad).
