Question about Cars & Trucks
Could be the start of a transmission problem.
GM had a ton of recalls from 2004-2010 on their transmissions.
aside from the worst case.
Ask your mechanic friend if you have a "fan clutch" and the test is simple. When you shut off the engine, does the fan continue to spin for a short time?
I have run into a few that had faulty fan clutches. If you hear it when shifting gears, that leans toward the transmission, but related, and also a recall from GM is the driveshaft.
You can call the service department at any GM dealer, ask for a service drive person, then have your VIN number handy as you ask them to do a search for recalls for your vehicle.
Hope you get it sorted out.
I am a former GM mechanic.

SOURCE: Engine whine noise
most likely a belt tensioner or pulley take some penetrating oil and spray the center of each pulley one at a time if the noise stops you got your bad pulley if not take the belts off the motor and spin everything by hand to feel or hear any grinding noises if you still don't feel anything run the motor (not for more then a minute) with the belts off and if the noise is still apparent your timing belt needs to be checked right away! it may be on its way out and if that goes your motor is toast good luck and please rate -jeff

SOURCE: Loud accelerating whining
THE FAN CLUTCH WILL MAKE A LOUD ROARING NOISE WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED AND GET LOUDER AS THE RPM IS RAISED. THERE IS A PROGRAM UPDATE THAT SOMETIMES FIXES THIS PROBLEM. IF NOT THE FAN CLUTCH WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE PROGRAM UPDATED.

Hello mpolci...The 2003 Tiburon was sold to the public with a defective clutch, it failed due to warpage and bad pressure plate... among other things. There are MANY class action lawsuits. Did you resurface or replace the flywheel when the clutch was replaced? Did you go with an aftermarket clutch kit, or factory? Also the slave cylinder on the 03 was known to have a defective valve.
You can try checking the levels and bleeding the system and if you still have problems, then it could be a release bearing, a loose clutch pad, or a broken pressure plate spring....If the clutch is still under warranty, i would return it to the installer.
Good luck, i hope this helps...please rate me a fixya.

Hey mate, Had exactly the same problem. Suggest you take the car to your local auto transmission repair centre (not holden) and they can check the electrical diagnostics - if it the Transmission inhibitor Switch (as it was on mine - if so should cost you no more than 1 hour labour and about $75 - $95 for the switch.
