Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

My 2001 Nissan Xterra started locking by itself, even while running and in park. My keys will not work to unlock the door when it locks, and when I unlock it with my remote, it quickly locks again sometimes. Sometimes I will have more time than other times. While locks are engaged and I am driving, if I try to unlock them with my door locks or the remote it will just relock quickly, sometimes several times unlocking relocking unlocking relocking again. Only seems it's the drivers door lock that actually moves though. Also makes a clicking noise while I drive, not actually engaging the locks, but like it is trying to. When it locks on the outside you can see my lights flash like when I engage my alarm. This all started on the 3rd night after warming my car up for 3 mornings with removing my remote from my key chain, and leaving my car running and locking it with my remote (which I have never done until 3 days ago) I don't know if this set it off. I do have an after market anti theft device but it does not seem to be related to this. It seems to be working properly. Although I do have an appt to just to make sure. If I remove my fuse for powerlocks can I use my keys to lock and unlock my doors?

SOURCE: 1996 nissan altima power door lock (driver side

You may need to diconnect the power lock button on the driverside door by prying it out (with the window controls). Problem may be in the switch or a short in the wiring. If this is not it, it may be in the door switch on either the drivers or passengers door.

SOURCE: alarm system goes off by itself

Your system may have a backup battery that has low voltage when the car is turned off. You may have to look under the dash to see if you can find the main computer for the alarm.

My 2012 Nissan Xterra doors keep locking while I'm driving. This also happens when it's park. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

That may be normal, all of my cars lock when going above about 15 mph and one of them locks when put in park, these were touted as a safety feature. Check with your dealer.

Nissan xterra door lock

sounds like an intermittent short in the wiring, a good place to start looking is where the loom goes through the door by the hinges, this is a place where the get a lot of wear, start with the drivers door and remove the door panel and check for any obvious chaffs in the wiring, (maybe give it a little wiggle).

2002 nissan xterra door lock

wd-40 the lock tumbler. that may work. if not, its the linkage inside the door. you can find out easily if you remove the door panel. you will see the rods and then begin to understand their operation. one of the linkage rods could be bent.

2002 nissan xterra drivers power door lock

could be the key tumbler needs a shot of lubricant. i recommend shooting wd-40 into the lock and cycling it. if the action improves but no unlocking, its the linkage attached to the tumbler itself. its easy to repair. remove the door panel. then CAREFULLY remove dust plastic and lay it in the floor so the black adhesive dont stick together. you should see the rods inside the door easily to understand their operation.

My 2007 Nissan Xterra doors locked on their own

Most likely you've got a timed lock programed into your menu parameters. You will have to go to your main vehicle instrumental menu and clear that option. This may have been inadvertantly done by one of the other operators of the vehicle.

Lost door lock remote for 2001 Nissan Xterra.

You don't want to turn the security system completely off, besides there really is no need to. To arm and disarm the vehicle simply use the key in the drivers door. When you turn the key and lock the car the system will arm after about 30 seconds. When you come back to the car and unlock the car with the drivers door lock cylinder the system will unarm, just the same as if you were using the remote. If the system is unarmed and it still wont start you probably have a NATS issue with the key. This is different than simply disarming. You can't shut off or disarm the NATS system.
