Question about 2009 Volkswagen Eos
The top on the car has recently decided to either stay 'down' or 'up'...which ever the status of the top is at the time it fails. The information I am provided by the system is "the trunk lid is not closed". I have found this to be untrue, as I must unlatch the deck using the switch on my door, and go to the back to close the trunk lid. Even after I do that, the top refuses to function..(either open or close). I am not sure as to whether the issue is the latch or the device that sends the signal to the motor that operates the top.

SOURCE: convertible top does not operate
the micro switch inside the trunk latch is probably faulty.try manually closing the latch on the trunk with a screw driver[dont hurt yourself] and see if the information display recognises the trunk is closed.also does the boot light go off?if not replace the boot lock...good luck

i havent ever had this problem but i'm familiar with the eos so i can say almost undoubtedly that the you have a bad trunk latch. there is a switch in the trunk latch that tells it if it's closed or open and i'm guessing that the switch is bad. once the switch tells the car that the trunk is closed, it runs the motor that close the trunk fully.
however, i say again that i've never had this problem on an eos so there is a fair amount of room for other issues. volkswagens are rather complicate and use a lot of different switches and such in the convertible top. also, the only way to know for sure is to bring your vehicle to the vw dealer becuase only the vw 5051 scan tool is capable of reading the inputs and outputs of the convertible top control module and this is what is required to properly diagnose the problem. don't waste your time throwing parts at it, the dealer should be able to give you a 100% positive diagnosis with one hours labor (about $90)

Welcome to Fixya
Sounds like the guide strings might be broken. Check the guide strings if they are ok. The strings are the one that is moving inside the roof pilars.
Thank you for using Fixya!

SOURCE: Looped string around round VW
The latch needs to be replaced and then inspected. If still the same problem with new trunk latch then computer needs to be reset by dealer resetting tool.------------ May be dealer will reset the computer with the reprogramming tool and that will clear the issue. And that should help. Thanks for the update.Helpmech.
