How do i remove parking brake cable on a 2006 saturn ion?

You take off the top spring then the adjuster then release the spring holding the back shoe then take off the bottom spring then the front shoe spring with that shoe loose you can disconnect the parking brake do not set the parking bake to do a brake job you can't get the drum off to start with

remove the tire. pull the drum off. you'll see then that the brakes are held in place by a series of levies and springs. you'll need to unhook the spring to get the brake off then reverse the directions to put the new one on

Hello, My son has a 97 saturn sl 4dr that has rear disc brakes that has given up the ghost. He has purchased an 01 sl 4dr that has rear drum brakes. can we swap the axles on these cars. I hate drum...

Don't know the answer but consider a few things

You now have newer model saturn
That means totally different electronics,
throughout the car

Braking Systems or any vehicle systems
are designed by engineers to do specific
things a certain way ,and millions of dollars
are spent getting the final product to the dealer

Your not doing a restoration or modification,
as you would on, say a 55 chevy here

So my answer is, you don't have one thing I can
think of in the braking system that would be compatible
from disc to drum, when you consider the ABS System
Electronics and now way you have the same master cylinder
or wheel cylinder diameters, volume, metering valves etc.

Someone may give you a very technical answer, that it has &
can be done by someone on this site.

I personally could engineer it,but wouldn't, it is a daily
driver and 10 years old. You don't spent any time or money
on something like that.
They don't even make Saturns anymore

How to replace the park brake

go to autozone or advance and buy new emergency brake cables and install them. no doubt they are corroded so you will have some pulling and tugging to do. if you have drum brakes get rear hardware kits with new springs. since you have to take it apart might want to put in new brake shoes while you are in there.

How do i change my rear hubs

Loosen the rear lug nuts, jack up the car, remove the rear wheels, remove the brake drums, remove the brake shoes and hardware, remove the 4 bolts holding the hubs in. Bolt in the new hubs, reassemble the brake shoes and hard ware, put the brake drums on, put the wheels on and snug the lug nuts, lower the car, tighten the lug nuts.

I need to replace rear brakes for 2001 saturn

Your car came with 2 types of brakes for that year here is the DRUM BRAKE REMOVAL. I will have to send it in 2 posts since the text is too long to send it in 1 post. Please vote if this helps you:
  • Remove the wheels and brake drums.
  • Remove the lower return and adjuster springs using a universal brake spring remover. Do not over extend the springs or they will damaged and will need to be replaced.
  • Compress the leading brake shoe hold-down cup and spring while removing the pin from the rear of the backing plate. Release spring compression, then remove the hold-down cup and spring.

    Drum brake spring location

hi, the spring i think you are talking about will be the spring for the handbrake/parking return where the handbrake comes into the back of the drum there will be two holes one on either brake shoe, just below where the handbrake adjuster is fitted it is verry hard to put it in the holes but it does go eventually....hope this helps
