How to know if heater core leaking on freestar 2004

If you have an odor of coolant inside the vehicle, or the windshield fogs up when the defroster in turned on, or the carpet on the passenger floor is wet and doesn't dry, you probably have a heater core leaking.

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante LS and the front windshield has started fogging up (from the dash upwards) My brother says it could be the heater core. If so, what are the symptoms, where is the heater...

Symptoms of a damaged heater core is moisture and the odor of coolant in the cabin as well as the possibility of coolant puddled in the passenger floorboard. The heater core is inside the dash and requires removal of the dashboard assembly in most vehicles. Unless you are comfortable with a large amount of work disassembling the dash, I would refer this to a competent mechanic.

My front defroster is not working at its best, however the back one is working properly. If I add any heat while trying to defrost my windows the problem get worst.

Sounds like the heater core is leaking coolant. If it is leaking it will blow steam out of defrost vents and fog the windshield. Symptoms: low coolant level in radiator, steam coming out vents when engine is warmed up, odor of anti-freeze coming out of vents, wet carpet in floorboard near heater blower motor.
If so, replace heater core.

Heater immediately fogs all windows and there is a sweet odor in the cab of 2003 Buick Rendezvous, defroster works fine, but will not clear the windows after heat is put on

Sounds like a possible heater core failure(hole in it) the smell indicates to me the coolant(anti-freeze) is leaking into the passenger compartment.
Check the carpet in front of the front passenger seat for moisture, this would confirm heater core leak.
Good luck !

Window fogs up when heat is on

Not sure if this is the problem, but the symptom that you describe is consistant with what happens when you get a heater core leak. When the system gets pressureized, you likely have a mist spraying..like a vapor in your heater box. The fan then carries the mist to the cabin and moisture forms inside the car. Usually when this happens, it will be accompanied by an odor of coolant. Also over time, your coolant levels will drop. As the condition worsens, your passenger side floorboard could start getting wet. Good Luck! I hope you find this very helpful!

My heater is letting fog out instead of heat and my defrosed is fogging the windows in the car

Sounds like you may have a heater core leaking. If there is an odor and you are losing coolant . It can also make you ill if you breath it .

Strong coolant odor in cab of car Chevy Tahoe 2002

Honestly, if you are smelling coolant in your cab, 9 times out of 10 the culprit is the heater core or a lin in the cab going to the heater core. A coolant line going the the intake would come directly off of the radiator if I'm not mistaken, which is in the front of the truck... and further away from the cab. Instead of using a paper towel, smell the carpet. If you have pets don't let them near the carpet. Anti freez has a sweet taste but is VERY deadly.

It's possible that the heater core is on it's way out but not completely failed, or there could be a leak that only occurs under high pressure (like when your on the interstate).
