Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

99 Nissan pathfinder le. I was driving and lost all power (lights, dash lights, hazards, everything). I had the alternator tested at auto zone and it was putting out +14. I replaced the battery and it started and ran fine for about a day. Then completely died again, I replaced the alternator and it started again but was only running off of the battery. I had the alternator tested on the vehicle and it showed that it was only running off the battery. I don't know what else to do. Could it be a fuse? Also none I my gauges work (rpm, gas or speedometer)

You are throwing away money by replacing g parts that are likely just fine. Check for an ecu relay. My wife's 06 has an IPDM/ecu relay issue that will cause the vehicle to just die. It gets corrosion inside the contacts and cuts power to the computer. I had already purchased a spare for a couple dollars. Wife was close to home and car died, started back and was acting up. Swapped the relay in about 2 minutes and no issues since (several months now). Sometimes a small part can cause big problems. You can't just throw money at everything hoping to fix it. You need to do some research and troubleshooting.

SOURCE: 95 pathfinder wont stay running and doesnt charge

not sure what the issue is as a motor, unless you are running all your accesories should run off the battery for abit.

quick test. put a completely charged battery in the vehicle. start it up.... unhook the battery.... if it dies.... alternator.... if it keeps running battery.

SOURCE: 95 nissan pickup wont start

Start the engine, and remove the positive cable from the battery, if it stays running your alternator is most likely o.k. because the engine stays running from alternator current once it starts.
I have had 5 of these trucks 1994 to 1997 and I have had to replace many batterys and alternators, and I have even gotten new alternators where the current was not strong enough, that will make the battery light stay on sometimes also.

Read your owners manual first

You have dash lights telling you the problem,
or at least the system with the fault

You can not diagnose & resolve anything yourself

You need a shop with the proper test equipment
just to find any problems

How to test installed alternator on nissan pathfinder 1994?

Start vehicle and with vehicle running there should be at least 14 volts when tested at battery leads. If you don't have a volt meter may I suggest taking this vehicle to an AUTO-ZONE and they will test for FREE. They will test the entire charging system including battery and alternator and starter. Good Luck
