what engine is there, Isuzu ran carbs last, until 1994
the fuel tank and all fuel lines match the engine.
some are gas others are diesel.
in what country, they sold them world wide and are not the same.

on the USA car,
the book says, and I quote
"

The Pick-up (P'UP), Amigo and Rodeo models are equipped with the fuel filter located directly in front of the fuel tank, whereas on the Trooper/Trooper II models, the fuel filter is located along the inner side of the right frame rail, near the rear of the vehicle."

ever get a tuneup this decade? no? why? if no.

our 86' the choke died and cant buy parts for it so switch to manual choke, like my first car we did it, in a 1959.

the engine has cam belt that must be changed, did you. if it slips engine lacks power or BUCKS.

or going for the 100,000 mile world record? on said belt.......???
the 2.0 is chain drive cam, so now's that time to fess up and tell us what engine is there. (about 9 engines world wide, ouch) really.

is choke stuck on> hot? (like at 86s do)
power valve inside (h3ll) fails and leaks.

4: and over 50 more reasons for misfire.
misfire is violent (heard, felt and lower power)
bogging is fuel starvation feels like dragging a dead 5,000 lb weight.

bucking most times is bad spark,

if the scan tool dont show it bad, its not. but... no symptoms posted
lost all spark, and engine dont start but cranks ok.

the correct name for this engines is 2.6 L 4ZE1 I4

if you google that , you can learn 1000 things, and where the parts are.
The 2.6L 4ZE1 SOHC eight valve engine features 120 hp (89 kW) and was available as an option to replace the 4ZD1 on four-wheel-drive models.

like all CKPs it can only be in 3 places.
front crank end.
rear end (lots of ways, here, on fly, behind fly, on crank)
mid crank (rare)

but also depends on what country sold, , in the USA they
had to move it, for misfire detection !
so where are you, or better to what country was the car sold to, new.

on the early cars there were no CKP, on the CAS in the DIzzy base.
on our cars it will throw a P0340 to 355 error if bad or even drops 1 in 10 pulses.like clock work that fact

has carb. ????? we cant guess this and 88 is transitions year.
to get help , tell engine size and if carb or EFI, we cant guess. that.
is this the gas engine or diesel, yes, they sold both, sigh.
i guess, gasoline petrol engine.
1: gave it a tune up yet?
2: does it have spark on all cylinders?
3: Yes,1&2 does test fuel work.? runs for 3 seconds?
4: will not run on test fuel check compression , a cheap tool.
5: ok compression is good, but runs on test fuel.
6: bad fueling. fix that. (cant help with out engine type, EFI type or CARB facts.

The 1986 Ranger V-6 was a 2.8L 170.4 cu or 2792 cc.
The carb for this engine was a 2 BBL Model 2150, E37E-AEA (Will not cross except for re-build kits!)
The Holley remanufactured PN is 645544

Autozone lists 3 carbs... one for manual trans one for auto trans and one other:

WHY..... do you want a carb. A 2.6 never came with a carb. So theres no distibutor with mechanical advance. I dont think you can do it.

Shouldn't be a problem, they were essentially the same truck. Isuzu didn't change anything until 01 I believe.
