SOURCE: my problem is that the upper door hinge on my 2001

Most likely the hinge is not bad, but the hinge pin bushings are bad. You can buy the hinge pins and the bushings at your local auto parts store. They come in a kit. Hope this info is helpful.

SOURCE: need to remove barn doors on a 92 suburban

You do not have to pull the hinge. I just did one. The pins need to be pressed out. We used a bearing press. It is a 4 hour job. Locate the pins fisrt and you will see why they won't pound out.

99 Chevy Silverado door pins how to change hinges

If the hinges are bolted they can be released from the bodywork and door by removing the bolts although on many models accessing the bolts can be a very difficult task.

In the case of welded hinges the door must be removed by removing the hinge pins. There is then a lot of careful grinding and cutting to remove the hinge parts from the door and the bodywork and new hinges welded into place.

In the case of a car regularly maintained, including oiling the hinges, removing the hinge pins with a dedicated service tool is relatively easy but can be extremely difficult without the service tool. Cars that have not received a high level of maintenance throughout it's life hinge pins can be extremely difficult to remove needing the application of heat, lots of hammering and repainting afterwards.

You need to remove the door handle/window winder and sometimes the door lock button. Then the rest of the door panel is held on by expanding nylon pins which pop out wit the insertion of some kind of wedge - like a screwdriver -protected to keep the paint from scraching, or a sharp wood dowel.

Replacing the back hatch (door). I need to get the handle free to change out the key barrel. There is a long nylon threaded screw holding one end of the handle from inside the door panel. Once I get this...

I don't remember having a long nylon screw in this. Open the hatch, remove the sheet metal screws that work with the push pins to secure the interior cover. After removing those screws carefully pry the push pins up till they come free from the hatch. This will give you access to the lock assembly. remove the "C" clamp that holds the lock in place after disconnecting any rods that maybe attached to it and the lock should come out toward the outside of the vehicle. There should be no reason to remove the molding.

How do you open the side door panel to a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero?

Become a detective all screws that are hidden including in the door rest -look for inserts that can be lightly pried out some have them hiding the door in the door rest -using a door panel remover(found at most auto parts stores) start at lower edge of door pulling the nylon door snaps out from the frame-as you progress you use your feel if all screws have been removed .some nylon snaps will need a little coaxing.
