Pressure plate and clutch plate is stuck together

After sitting for several months, the clutch plate seems stuck to the pressure plate; not letting the slave cylinder release the two apart.

    The slave and master are in good order, I tried prying the throwout bearing arm from under the truck and it is not budging.

You might be able to take the starter out to access the flywheel and use a pry bar to break them apart. You could also have a failed slave or master cyl.

Hi i just put a new master cylinder a month back now today my clutch felt hard and when i put it in reverse heard a broken sound clutch went flat and oil came from the master what can the problem be


Umm...

A mechanical 'breaking noise' doesn't sound good. It's hard to diagnose a problem online without being there to see/hear the vehicle. But .. it may be that your clutch pressure plate has broken/ release/throwout bearing has broken?

It's difficult to see why the master cylinder should leak - unless it was incorrectly fitted in the first place?

Just to check ... The master cylinder is in the engine bay/compartment and is where you top up with clutch fluid. When a master cylinder fails it usually results in no pressure at the clutch pedal, not a leak.

The clutch slave cylinder is the one that does all the work. When you press the pedal hydraulic pressure is sent from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder - which then pushes the release/throwout bearing against the clutch pressure plate and 'disconnects' the driven plate .. allowing you to change gear.

The slave cylinder is the one that does all the hard work - it is located somewhere where engine and gearbox mate together, usually at the bottom right/left. It's usually the one that fails/leaks. It's quite easy to replace..

I don't think it is anything to do with reverse gear. It's more to do with the clutch pedal being depressed - and, I would suspect - something has failed.

Basically, a clutch is 3 parts. There's the 'pressure plate' which bolts onto your flywheel. The pressure plate is a 'spring'. You depress the clutch pedal and the release/throwout bearing presses onto the centre of the pressure plate causing the 'fingers' - the springs - to bend back and take pressure off the driven plate - which is the link - the drive - between engine and gearbox.

If you have a leak your clutch will not work. This causes a 'grinding/crashing' noise when you try to change gear. The first thing you should do is check where the leak is coming from and do something about it.

The 'noise' that you mention may be due to the fact that the gears are 'grinding' as they try to mesh together without the use of the clutch.

The first thing you should do is check why there's a leak. It's difficult to see why a new master cylinder is leaking unless it was incorrectly fitted and damaged (pipes incorrectly connected..).

If it's the slave cylinder that is leaking - replace it. Easy job.

If Master cylinder and slave cylinder are ok - you have to look at your clutch unit. A clutch is always replaced with 3 parts ... throwout bearing/pressure plate and driven disk.

On a 04 Nissan Frontier I replaced the clutch. After several months shaking really bad when I let out on the clutch in first gear. It never does it when cold only after driven awhile.


clutch shudder is from hot spots on the flywheel ,hot spots/warped pressure plate, oil on the flywheel face /pressure plate face, faulty engine mounts. many people think that it is just a matter of replacing the clutch plate but this always results in a poor performing clutch
Installing a clutch kit without first removing the protective coating on the pressure plate is a problem as well
Incorrect tightening sequence of the pressure plate bolts will cause a deformed pressure plate cover resulting in clutch engagement problems
If you have a cable clutch then that is made worse by bad engine mounts. Remember what you did and what you should have done and you will have the answer as to why it is shuddering on take off.

are you refering to the clutch fork that connects to the other end of the clutch cable, you will have to drop the gear box as this fork sits over the clutch pressure plate ,and pushes the thrust bearing against the pressure plate tynes so disengages the drive from engine to gearbox, while you've got the box out check the condition of the clutch parts ie thrust bearing,pressure plate spring's,friction plate condition

if it revs a lot but doesn't actually speed up, that means the clutch is slipping. This can occur if transmission oil is LOW but also the clutch plate is a wearable item and does need replacing once worn out. Your actual transmission should be ok if this is all the problem is. The clutch is essentially what transfers the power from the engine to the transmission, through the use of the clutch pedal. the clutch is made up of a clutch disc, and a pressure plate, and a pilot bearing, more or less.

The clutch disc acts sort of like a brake pad, and sits in between the pressure plate and the flywheel. When you let off of the clutch pedal, the pressure plate contacts the clutch disc, and pushes it against the flywheel, locking the transmission and motor together, thus transferring engine power to the transmission.

When the clutch wears out, the clutch disc no longer has enough friction material to effectively 'lock' both together, and the full power can no longer be transferred, which is when the transmission slips. Eventually the car won't move if it isn't replaced.

In my opinion it'd be in your best interest to take it to your local dealer and have them check it out.

This is a common issue with any transmission of a car, and it is a fairly straightforward fix, however it may be somewhat pricey as it is a labor intensive job.

New clutch still slipping


Lets start with what was replaced : Clutch pressure plate, throwout bearing,pilot bearing,input shaft bearing, was flywheel cut or replaced,Clutch cable or slave cylinder (whatever is applicable,) Lets see what repair shop says. Depending on what they say they did or didn't do we will take it from there.

Clutch won't release on 92 Nissan P/U. Changed Clutch Master Cylinder and slave. Bled system. Have good travel on slave cylinder but still does not release the clutch when the pedal is pushed?


If the vehicle has been standing for some time (6 months or more) without use, the clutch plate facings may be 'stuck' to the flywheel and pressure plate surface.
To check/clear this problem:-
(with the engine not running!)
hold clutch pedal down - then from under vehicle, find an opening in the clutch bellhousing (such as a water drain slot) where you can see/access the edge of the clutch plate (sandwiched between the pressure plate and flywheel).
Use a screwdriver blade (or similar tool) to prise clutch plate free from flywheel face (only small movement is required).
If the above is not the cause of your problem, 1) the clutch throwout mechanism should be examined for problems,
2) the pressure plate is faulty- may need to be replaced.

I was bleeding my clutch now my clutch pedal stuck to the floor on a 1995 f 150


Most modern clutches are hydraulic. It may be that either the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder are stuck or some sort of restriction in the line. Or, it may be that the throwout bearing or pressure plate have some sort of issue (this requires pulling the tranny and looking at the clutch, pressure plate (plate that rides against the clutch with springs to engage the clutch) and throwout bearing (bearing on the arm that presses against the pressure plate to engage the clutch).

Of course, I am assuming you have checked for any outside restrictions that would not allow the pivot arm to retract (missing spring or piece of ice or debris stuck in there).

Just some ideas :)
