I would replace the ignition starter switch, that will likely cure the problem. This is the multi wire switch the key operates

SOURCE: anti theft dash light is blinking on my 1998 rodeo

I'm assuming its an original alarm or system that came from factory or dealer. When the light blinks is because the alarm is activated. Look underneath the radio the alarm brain might be there. There will be a label on it saying alarm or security system etc. Disconnect the harness to it and try operating your vehicle.

SOURCE: 1998 Ford F-150 won't start w/ the key, but will w/ remote start.

Always verify that there are no aftermarket devices causing interference, such as alarms, remote starters or other devices utilizing transponders. Devices that power up the PCM without powering up the PATS Control module can experience no-start concerns. It is probbally a key issue depending on the PATS system in that truck you may have to have more than one key coded into the transponder. Try you spare key.

Could be a problem with the anti-theft system, the neutral safety switch, the key switch, or the actual starter.
Will it crank in neutral instead of park ? Do you have power at the starter posts when the key is in the start position ?

It could be the starter has a dead spot, the battery voltage is weak, the ignition switch itself, the antitheft passkey or the neutral safety switch..it could also be a bad brake switch. The shift /start interlock is connected to the brake switch...
troubleshooting..... 1) put a test light on the small wire on the starter and see if it lights when attempting to start.if it has 12v or the test light is bright,,but will not crank, tap the starter gently with a plastic hammer,if it cranks the starter is bad.2) make sure the security light is going out.If not it is not reading the passkey and the ignition is faulty.3)when it does not start, jumper with a good battery and see if it starts if it does the battery voltage is low.4) make sure the brake lights go on with every application of the brake pedal.5)try to start in neutral instead of park when the failure occurs,if it does...the neutral safety switch is no good.
best of luck

1998 GMC Sonoma won't start click sound. lights come on but not starting.

Is the security light on somewhere on the dash when this happens? This sounds like a classic case of the security system shutting down the starter and going into antitheft mode. Read up on the link for some symptoms and do it yourself solutions. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

2003 accoed won't start. It just clicks and the KEY dash light comes on. Has new battery and was driven to house and parked last week. won't jump start either.

try tapping your starter it sounds to me that it is bad and may need to be replaced if tapping it makes it respond then it is bad if not then you can have a bad fusible link or a master fuse has blown.

GMC Sierra Won't Start. Battery Good. Tried Jump

If you know the batter is good.

Check the Starter to see it is getting power.

Get a test light [6.00] and see if the starter will light up the test light.
If not - then you may need a new starter. From the sounds of it you might want to take it to a professional as this can be a very labor intense job because the starter has to come out the bottom.

Parking lights and dash lights won't shut off

The park lights staying on indicates the switch is deteriorating.
I would replace it.
The door locks is probably a voltage issue. With the cold weather, the locks need more voltage to unlock. They get that voltage when the engine is running. If you really want the locks to work without the engine, you might try accessing the locks and cleaning them. Then use a lightweight grease, like lithium grease, to help them open with less power.

2002 GMC Envoy

If your 2002 gmc envoy or sierra will not even turn over with a kown good battery try starting it in nuetral then go back to park and try starting again. There is a park nuetral safety switch that can malfunction. Turn the key on then shift into nuetral, then turn fully to start.
