SOURCE: courtesy lights stay on all the time, only go out by pulling fuse

Sir,

The courtesy timer is receiving an input somehow and starting the timer. You need to check the input voltages when wiggling the doors. Worn door pins and bushings or a latch can cause this. When the light is off grasp the door and try and force it around. If the light comes on you know which door it is. It isn't going to be the timer.

thanks
good luck

SOURCE: Where is the courtesy light delay switch located

The courtesy lights as well as the map lights (located on the bottom side of the rearview mirror) will come on when you open a door (unless it's bright outside) and will remain lit for approx 30 seconds and then will turn off. This is verbatim from my '92 Corvette owners manual - The map lights can be turned on and off, but there isn't a delay switch, persay. Hope this helped.

SOURCE: i have a 91 corvette.

Hi.

The door switch must be tested either reading volts when the problem happens, or disconnecting switch wiring. If the stereo is involved in the problem the wiring at the back of the stereo must also be checked. In there you find a 12V memory wire that is always hot, if that is shorting the light may come on at random times.

If the switch is OK and there is no short test the relay and the diode module located under the passenger dash. Testing is done reading volts when the problem happens to check what wiring is getting 12V to lamp.

Here the relay picture, the relay is the 4th from the right. Relays can be tested by swapping them (e.g with the fog lamp relay, if fog lamps come on and dome light works, then relay was the problem):

Courtesy and dome lights won't shut off. Could the courtesy light relay be the problem and where is it located? I already replaced the control timer module which didn't help.

the courtesy and dome lights are operated by switches in the door frame look around the opening and look for a small black button
that button presses back in and breaks the circuit thereby putting out the light
if it is earthed ( grounded) at the back then the lights will stay on
there is one for each door and any one will keep the lights on

do you have the light switch on? also there is a little switch on the door that gets pressed when you close it this part could be broken causing the car to think the door has been left open thus leaving on the courtesy lights

What are the lights in the back inside for in a 1980 corvette?

The lights are convince lights. Some cars had a courtesy package which illuminated the underside to enable you to see the spare when changing a flat and also to assist in walking arrounfd the car.

What is causing the security light to flash after car is shut off along with courtesy lights on

There are little switches in the door jams that depress when you shut the door. One of these is broken or disconnected....no other real possibility here.

1984 corvette domelight coming on at anytime

Your problem is most likely a defective courtesy light delay timer module. The design is so poor that they are guaranteed to eventually fail.

The module is accessed by removing the lower instrument panel on the passenger side. That's the panel on the passenger side that has the light mounted on it. Then you have to reach up and find the main wiring harness. The module is taped to the harness with masking tape. Break the tape and the module can be lowered down just far enough to unplug it. It's black and will have 3 white wires, a black, a pink/white and a pink/black wire on a 5-pin connector.

The timer was discontinued long ago by GM and reproductions are hard to find. However, the timer function can be easily bypassed at the connector. Remove the timer module from the mating connector and place a jumper wire in the connector at the outermost pin (WHITE wire) and the second pin from the other end (also WHITE wire). The interior lights will now shut off immediately when the doors are closed.

2001 Sequoia, door ajar light goes off, but dome light stays on. Door ajar light comes on with slight pressure against closed door. Can replacing the door jam switch solve this problem? Why would the door...

To temporarily solve the light problem, I taped a washer to the inside of the door where the door hits the plunger on the light switch. A permanent solution would be to drill a hole in the door at this spot and put a self taping screw in that will trigger the switch sooner. I figured out the reason the dome light stayed on is due to the courtesy light timer and the lights would have eventually gone off.

Battery drain

There is a module called the delayed entry module, it keeps the courtesy lights on for about 30-40 seconds when the door is opened, by what you say that may not be the problem, without the load of the light bulbs the timer will not work in the module, this throws off many techs. Have you had the battery tested?? even if it is new it can have a problem, I put three new batteries from Kragen in my Corvette in 1 year, I also thought the system had a drain, but it was the battery every time, finally bought a Delco battery and never had an issue again.
