Your car battery may be at fault. My brother's 10 year old Mercury
had problems with air conditioning in auto mode, headlights were
dim,and door locks were mostly inop.
Problems cleared up after new battery was installed.

The thermostat is located in a housing on your engine that the top radiator hose connects to... but it isn't tied to your heater problem. The thermostat restricts coolant flow until the engine warms up, but doesn't control the car heater.
You may have a fuse issue if the fan isn't blowing any air. That's an easy check and fix. Autozone might check it for you.
I hope this helps... Good luck.

Take the turn signal lever and jiggle it, a lot. If they start working, the switch is bad. You can also turn on the hazards and take hold of the button and push it left , right , forward and back and see if they start working. If so, replace the turn signal/ hazard switch.
