How do i flush the heater core on the 2007 ford tarus

After the car has warmed up I get just a little bit of heat. Then the warm air goes away. and all I get is cold air.

You may have air in coolant system you should have a bleeding point somewhere and good idea to change pressure cab too.
Just becarefull engine coolant and heating system is a pressurized system that works on high temp. can cause a serious injuries!!Safety.
you need to run the car on idle with heat on at high speed and open and close the bleeding valve with proper size and long reach tool
till no air bubbles comeout make sure you run the car enough that thermostat opened and engine run on normal operation temp. for a while.good luck.

The hoses from your heater core should be very hot to the touch. Check the hoses going to the core from the water pump. It should be very hot. The return hose should also be very hot. Now check the hoses going to the core. If they are not the same temp, then your heater control valve is not working correctly or the vacuum is not working. At any rate, locate the vacuum line going to the heater valve. Remove the silver bar on the valve from the plastic plunger arm. You will have heat all the time now if it was only a vacuum problem. You can fix it later when it's warmer out. BTW a 200* thermostat will make your heater even hotter.

Try checking the two pipes that go into and come out of the heater matrix, is one of them hot? if it is there is an air lock within the matrix, Also is the thermostat opening fully? Sorry i know you said you have changed it twice already but take it out check settings when it should open and close, then boil some water and test the thermostat

both hoses is hot signifies thatcoolant circulation is just fine check the blend door actuator it might be stuck.pan the heater temp controller from hot to cold do you feel any change in temp of the air from the blower?if you dont feel any change check the blend door actuator

Sounds like you have air trapped in the heater core when you flushed the heater core. loosen the upper most heater core hose and run the engine untill coolant seeps out. Wait until the coolant has reached running temperature.

When I put the heat on in my car it blows warm air for a few seconds then goes to blowing out cold air.


The lack of heat in the car has little to do with the car's cooling system, other than the hot coolant is the heat source. 95% of all "no-heat" issues are related to heater controls and/or the heater core itself. Since you get some heat, and then it goes away, this indicates a probable vacuum leak in the heater controls. When you select heat, vacuum is directed to a vacuum motor. This motor operates a vacuum actuator that moves a linkage that moves a door inside the heater box to direct the interior air through the heater core. If this actuator has a leak, it will activate, then as the vacuum leaks off, deactivate. You probably need to have a part replaced in the heater actuator mechanism.

Not completely sure what symptoms are but you may have a partially plugged heater core. A reverse flush through the heater core may do the trick. There will be two hoses going to the heater core, one in and one out. Sometimes these heater cores are easy to replace, sometimes it's a major job. I am not familiar with the e350. There is a danger of creating a leak in a reverse flush if rust or whatever is sealing a leak.

2007 montana - low rpm - under 1k - no heat.


Make sure you radiator is full. There are 2 bleeder screws for that engine because its really hard to get all the air out. If its low or has too much air in it, you won't have any heat at low rpms.

Second thing is that your heater core may be a little stopped up and needs flushed, or replaced.

Thirdly, i've noticed that the Montanas don't put out a lot of heat if you're setting. But you should have some heat to keep you warm. No heat is no good.

Check your heater hoses..If one is hot and the other is cool or luke warm,,then the heater core is clogged..I know its hard to get to ,,but if its clogged sometimes you can take the hoses off,,and run a garden hose through it and flush it out..

It is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator. But just in case I would suggest to follow the entire procedure:

First you have to identify what causes the problem.
To do this you have to:
1) When engine is cold check the level of coolant. If it is low fill it up.
2) Start engine and check if engine reaches regular temperature. If your engine is not heated enough it means your thermostat does not work properly and should be replaced
3) If engine temperature is normal, then check the temperature of pipes that go to/from heater core. These pipes are located up the fire wall (easier access is from the passenger side). If pipe/pipes are cold (even engine is warm) it means you heater core is plugged and should be flushed. Keep in mind, flushing the whole cooling system is different from flushing heater core.
4) If pipe/pipes are hot/warm, turn off the fan, switch controller to the hot position, wait for 3-4 minutes and turn on the fan. Note if the cold air blows first or warm air blows first but it cools down in 5-10 seconds. If the air blows cold than it is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator.
5) If air blows warm first and then cools down, then while running engine and remaining the transmission in PARKING position, press on the gas pedal until your engine reaches 3,000 RPM. Check if your heater blows warm/hot air. If it does, then your water pump does not work properly and should be replaced. If the air still cold, I would suggest flushing the heater core.

Ck Eng light probably not related.
The heater core is clogged. A bottle of cooling system "quick flush" may be all you need ($6 AutoZone).
There is also a complete flush system, but requires that you splice into the heater hose (I installed it on my Taurus - works great!).

By the way, there is a heater core bypass hose. It is connected to the two heater core hoses near the firewall. You may want to remove the two "Tee" fittings and use a 5/8" hose splicer so that the flush passes through the heater core at full force. Put the Tee's back in place after the flush.

If you remove the tee fittings and don't flush, the heater will work, but the core may eventually start leaking.
