sounds like you may have an injector seal leak or an air leak at the filter check all fittings the rough idle is not abnormal with the air but a tune up will help also there is an air control solenoid if you left it unhooked broke a wire to it it will not start with the pedal being pushed and will idle lower than normal and very rough when air is on that is what i would at first..

SOURCE: reving up to 3000 rpms from idle
Check all your vacuum hoses especially the larger ones like the one from the brake booster to the intake. Check them for cracks of see if they're broken. Also spray WD-40 or carb. cleaner on the intake manifold where it meets the cylinder head. If the idle changes, you have a vacuum leak there.

sounds like overheating caused the head to warp blowing the headgasket ? there are always reasons this happens ? bad rad, waterpump, fans not working, thermostate, so be aware that after you repair headgasket to fix what caused it to blow or you will be doing it again ? god luck email@example.com

It may be a dirty air cleaner or a dirty Idle Airflow Valve . The IAC can be cleaned by taking off the duct work that goes from the air assembly to the fuel injector hole. The valve is to one of the sides of the hole just inside. You will see two small holes. Buy some card cleaner and with your engine running at about 1300 rpm spray the cleaner directly into these holes. Spray for a good 10 seconds. Stop the engine and let the cleaner soak in. Repeat this about 4 times. If it still idles rough it may be the Idle position sensor or you have to replace the IAC.
