Changed alternaton on 2000 mpv but now the battery light comes on and and causes a hesitation on acceleration. When stopped at traffic light it goes out then goes on again a little while after

You could have air in your coolant, causing this false reading. the hesitation could be related, if the air 'bubble' found its way to the coolant sensor.
Yes Lloyd, so long as the battery cable is disconnected the light will stay off. However it will be hard to start the car without a battery so this is a fix only if the vehicle is to be a museum piece.
You may want to have the car checked and find out what problem is causing the light to come on and get that problem fixed. For when you hook the battery back up that light will come on again.
you probably got a defective alternator...this happens more than it should...perform alternator output test at 2000 rpm you should make 13.6 volts and up to 100 amps of power under load.
Check the large fusible link labeled ALT in the under hood fuse box. If this fuse gets blown, the alternator wont be able to charge even if it IS new,because the ALT circuit is open.
The battery light is an indication of some kind of problem with the alternator, most likely a diode problem in the rectifier bridge, this changes AC current to DC current to supply power to the car and charge the battery.
The cruise problem is most likely the cruise control module is failing.
