Question about 1991 Cadillac Eldorado

1 Answer

1991 Suburban will not accelerate

It starts fine but when I press down on the accelerator nothing happens.
I can accelerate by inching the accelerator down a little at a time.

I can get up to about 55mph this way but very slowly.

A shop supposedly put in a new ignition module a few weeks ago because it would not start. All I could find out myself was that the injectors were not firing.

I had a new Catalytic Converter put in. No change.
    Further symptom observations:
    Cannot get high RPM's period.
    I can get up to 55, but that's 0 - 55 in 3 minutes, running in overdrive.
I also noticed my mileage dropped to about 5 mpg.

Somehow I put this in the wrong area.
    It should be under Suburban.
I'll try posting this with an update there.

Possibly the throttle position sensor. Easiest way to test is connect a scanner and go to real time data mode. With the key on,press the accelerator slowly and watch the throttle position change on the scanner. If it doesn't register a change when you start opening the throttle, replace the sensor.

Your timming belt has jumped a tooth.Remove the covers and check that all teeth are ok.Then tighten or change the timming belt.I would fit a new timming belt.Has it is costly when they fail.Good luck.pippall.
