Question about 2003 Honda Civic

2003 car starter deactivated

My car starter was deactivated, as it seems to do this every summer. I just recently replaced my ignition, but no wires were cut. This has lead to me getting one new key. I am not sure how to reactivate my car starter, as I believe it consists of a number of times turning it back and fourth quickly. Could you please help?!

Either your main relay is defective or you need a new ICM(ignition control module). Take the main relay out and look very closely for hairline cracks on the soldering. Good luck.

The car crank but wont start? We are assuming that your starter and ignition system its OK, then could test anti-theft, passlock or inmobilizer system? Keep in mind that this systems work when the batteri was disconnected.

Keep in touch.

I am wondering why when the key and probably the cylinder is worn you changed the ignition switch?

Your car is young enough to have an immobiliser as standard, probably a passive type with a coded transponder in the key. Perhaps it is that causing the trouble.

Coincidence is possible so verify the starter is still functioning by energising the solenoid at the starter if it is accessible. If the engine cranks and starts all is well. If it cranks and doesn't start then the immobiliser is a possible cause. If it doesn't crank the starter could be faulty.

If it cranks and starts I advise going back to the ignition switch and energising the starter from there by bridging a live wire to the starter wire. If it doesn't crank it is either a wiring fault or the immobliser if it has one. If it does crank and start the fault is likely wear in the part of the steering lock that drives the ignition switch.

Good luck!

2003 chev suburban starts & runs but the light in the dash that shows the lock & the car remains on. I recently changed the ignition switch, could it just need reprogramming?

If you just have a light on the dash on go to autozone and they will extract the codes and tell you what's wrong before spending money where you don't have to!

Car wont crank

I have a 2000 Olds Intrigue that has the starting problem that some people have spoke about. You turn the key and all lights come on but the car will not start nothing. I 1st replaced the ignition switch which did not correct the problem. To get around the problem I have connected a wire to my starter and ran the wire up to the battery and when the car acts up I take the wire touch the positive pole on the battery post and the starter will turn over. I then get in my car and use the key and start the car. I have not been stranded by the car since. I try the key a few times if nothing happens I'll wait a few minutes and if that does not do it I jump the starter with my wire. This has been working for the last 2 years. It's not a correction but it is a work around.

Check your wiring going to your starter if they all seem to be connected properly then you most likely have a starter problem. You would then have to replace your starter. The solenoid on your starter is probably done.

Take the car in, and have the fuel pump checked, and maybe the alternater. Something in there is going out. Could even be lose battery cables, or a lose connection. Either way, you should have it checked before you get stuck somewhere.
