Replacing alternator fuse

Try removing the fuse box and then turn it upside down and remove the bottom cover, remove some of the electrical connectors to get some room then you can get to the bolts that hold the fuse in.

How do you get the alternator out in a 91 toyota mr2

Welcome to Fixya

Lay the fan all the way to the bottom of the engine compartment below and out of the way of the alternator. (You do not need to pull it completely out of the car.) Remove the outside passenger side cowl with 2 screws. Loosen the tensioner on the alternator belt then remove the belt from the alternator pulley. (First loosen the pulley nut and then back off the long tensioning bolt from the bottom.) Unplug the green plug from the alternator. Unbolt the bolt from the top and the long bolt from the bottom of the alternator. A short pry bar helps lifting the bottom of the alternator from its bracket. Then undo the 10mm nut on the charge wire. Now reach through the quarter panel and ease the alternator back and out through the vent hole in the quarter panel.

Thank you for using Fixya!

How to replace an alternator

Steps on how to replace alternator of 91 honda accord.
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal cable from your battery on your 1991 Honda Accord. Be sure to double check that the ignition is in the Off position before disconnecting the battery. You should also wait for fifteen minutes after disconnecting the battery before doing anything else to your engine. Since the alternator is located near the top of the engine, there is no need to lift the car.
    2. Place a drain pan underneath the power steering reservoir and loosen the feed and return lines using a line wrench. Loosen and remove the feed and return lines from the pump as well, being sure to catch any power steering fluid in the drain pan. Use a socket wrench to remove the power steering pump on your 1991 Honda Accord. Make sure that you put the pump along with its two connector bolts in a place where you will not lose them or forget that those specific bolts go with the pump. You may also need to hold the pump over the drain pan for a minute to get any power steering fluid drained that is resting in the pump itself.
    3. Disconnect the cruise control actuator from the engine, but do not remove the actuator cable. The entire actuator unit can be moved out of the way with the cable still attached to it. It will only take removing the single bolt connecting the actuator with the rest of the engine; This will save you some labor and hardship later on so that you do not have to reconnect the actuator cable.
    4. Use your hands to disconnect the electrical connection tab that connects the 1991 Honda Accord's electrical system to the alternator. If the connection tab is stuck, then use a flat head screwdriver to gently pry it off.
    5. Use a socket wrench with extensions and pivot heads to remove the alternator terminal nut as well as the wire from the terminal itself. Loosen the adjusting bolt and the alternator nut, both of which are found on the bottom side of the alternator, below the main alternator pulley. Be sure to lay the adjusting bolt and the alternator nut in a place where you will not misplace or lose them.
    6. Remove the belt from the alternator pulley, which should now be loose enough, after taking out the adjusting bolt, that you can stretch it over the pulleys and slide it off of the alternator system. You should be able to stretch the belt off from the pulleys with your hands.
    7. Use the socket wrench to unscrew the lower through-bolt. You may need to use special pivot adaptors to reach the head of the lower through-bolt, which is located underneath the main alternator pulley. There is also a small support stay that is attached to the lower through-bolt, which should be removed after the through-bolt is pulled out.
    8. Use a socket wrench to remove the upper through-bolt and carefully support and remove the old alternator.
    9. Install the new alternator. Tighten the upper through-bolt to 33 foot-pounds by using a torque wrench. Reinsert the small stay, the lower through-bolt and the adjusting bolt in reverse order of their removal with old alternator. Slide the belt back onto the pulley system with the new alternator in place. Reinsert the alternator nut and tighten it to adjust the belt tension. The alternator nut should be tightened to 19 foot-pounds.
    10. Reinstall all of the other parts that were taken off to remove the alternator from the system. First make sure that the electrical connection tab is resecured. Reinstall the cruise control actuator and the power steering pump. Reconnect the power steering pump and power steering reservoir feed and return lines with the line wrench. Be sure to refill the reservoir with new power steering fluid. Reconnect the negative battery-terminal cable and try turning the car on. Allow for it to run through a couple of cycles and observe the new alternator as well as the parts that you just recently put back onto your 1991 Honda Accord. Make sure that all parts are working just as well, if not better, in the case of the alternator, than before.

Replacing alternator on 91 nissan 300zx

first jack up car then look on the passenger side of the car to find the alternator. there is a bracket right next to the crank pully going to the alternator. it is only one bolt. undo it. there is i believe a 15 mill bolt on top of the alternator with a lock nut on the back almost out of reach from the bottom. undo the bolt and the alternator will drop down into your hands. there is the tensioner bolt to tighten the belt on the bottom of the alternator you can loosen it up to make things easier on you. when the alternator is loose pull out gently as there is one clip connection and two ground bolts on the back of the unit itslef. undo all of these and slide your alt out the front. it may be easier to remove the clutch fan on the water pump pully first. (4 nuts)

Removing alt. bolt

The bolt goes in from the back, bottom of the alternator, and the nut is on the front, bottom of the alt. It's a long bolt, u will probably have to get a wrench on both ends, I seem to remember the last time I had mine out, the nut came off ok, then I had to turn the long bolt while pulling back slightly to get it to come out. Let me know it u need more info. countrycurt0

I just went thru this on mine... it is easiest to get to from the bottom right corner... remove the shields and it's right there... take the lower adjustment bolt out , the upper rear bolt and the upper outer bolt out , drop it down and swap wires and replace . Tip; a shorty phillips screw driver works well to allign the holes on the upper rear bolt. DO NOT tighten any of the bolts untill they are all in.
