Question about 2005 GMC Yukon

1 Answer

No heat just cold air

All vents blow fine (defrost, dash vents, back seat vents, and floor), but there is no heat - just cold air regardless of setting or how fast or slow I have fan speed (fan speed is fine). Auto control or manual doesn't seem to make any difference, The car has been sitting quite a bit lately and driven like 4-5 times in the last 45 days or so. Engine starts right up np and coolant levels seem fine. I had been smelling a faint antifreeze smell late summer but I could NOT see any dripping on the ground or around the engine itself.

The fans are blowing fine and the engine heats up to normal temps. I'm definitely smelling a burnt coolant smell but can't see any leaks. Also having a hard time identifying the heater hoses for sure. Any suggestions? I'm googling the heck out of it with no luck. If they are the ones I think they are one is get hot and one is luke warm after running for 5 minutes.

Alright - sorry for the question After hours of looking under the hood and Googling it was the Coolant. It was a bit low. I thought it was full but my GF pointed out the actual line and it was low. Topped it off and heat came right back. Thanks for the time and answers.

Is the gauge showing the engine is warming up to normal temp ?
Are the heater hoses getting hot ?
If the heater core is getting hot, it could be a blend door problem. The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and the ac evaporator among other things.

I'd have to be there in person to find the hoses. Should be two around 3/4 in diameter going into the firewall. And both should be hot. Are you sure the radiator is full ?

SOURCE: heater not working

The problem is probably the blower motor resistor. I'm not sure where yours is located exactly. They can be on the firewall under the hood or some are near the blower motor under the dash.

Is it a new vehicle? I had a new vehicle that had the same problem. Answer was that the holes weren't punched out of the vent.

SOURCE: Heat not working on 98 gmc jimmy. Replaced

Flushing the heater core is fairly easy just remove the 2 hoses going to the heater core and use a different hose if you have to and use a garden hose to backflush the blockage out..this may take as much as 5-6 times also check for vacumn lines missing or disconnected or breaks pinched ect... some where in the vicinity of the passenger side under hood by the a/c lines ect. good luck hope this helps

I have a 1975 k5 blazer and it blows cold air it worked fine last year but now it only blows cold air even on the defrost setting what can the problem be and how can I fix it?

A vent flap actuator probably needs to be replaced. It's what moves your vent flaps from heat to A/C or to plain "vent air" when you change settings.

The discussion in the link includes vent flap actuators. Unfortunately, they also include the infamous no low speed fan problem too.

Cannot get any air from dash vents while defrost and floor vents work fine...

Your particular actuator will be a different one than they found.
They're all a absolute pain to get at because they can be well buried in the dash. I would start looking under the dash on the passenger side, that's where most of the air control is. Cannot get any air from dash vents while defrost and floor vents work fine...

Often a sign of a blend door problem. The blend door or doors are in the heater a/c box behind the dash.

International 9400 9200 9900 heat box is under the passages side seat. That where the heater core location and the ac evaporator blower. You have two control motors under there one control the bunk for hot and cold. The other control front for hot and cold. Defrost vent and front vent is in the dash. My suck on defrost and in floor will open to front vent. I have not locate yet.
