Question about 1999 Ford Contour

1 Answer

Where do you put water in a 99 ford contour?

It's a v6 2.5L and the engine is the earlier model for '99. You know, the one before April '99. Someone told me to put water in it, but I don't know where to put it, or even if I'm really supposed to.... Thanks.

SOURCE: 97 Ford Contour GL 2.5 L V6. Stalling out. Auto

They are not only for improving milleage, but play a crusual key for ECM to give out how much fuel to mix with air to have proper combustion hence not stalling when accelerated. But Oxygen sensors are expensive and even you have them replaced , this is not going to solve your problem since gum has built up at your throttle valve over the years. Have another shop to clean your throttle body first. Make an appointment so you can be there to see how dirty the throttle body is and also to make sure they actually take out the part to clean, not just spraying cleaner to the Air mass flow flap valve. After the throttle body cleaned, take off the battery cables for 30 minutes to reset the ECM to its default state so it doesn't use data from your current state. You will see an improvement. Afterward, the problem is still existing then Have Auto Zone store diagnose free for O2 problem before replacing them. Cheers.

I have a 99 ford contour v6, 2.5 lt. are there any other makes that the alternator is interchangeable with?

I'd find what other models Ford puts their 2.5 ltr V6 in...from your Ford dealer or parts shop.
That engine can be found in some Taurus and Sables.

99 ford contour daytime running lights work, but high beams do not.

I live in Australia & I don't fully understand the term " daytime running lights " but high beam & low beam lights are on separate fuses as is the parking lights so you probably have a blown fuse, check all the fuses in the fuse box......hope this helps......cheers.

The timing belt on my '99 Contour just broke. I had it replaced along with the tensioner by a Ford dealer....but now the engine falters under moderate to hard acceleration. Prior to the timing belt...

let them re install it ,
I think it is one tooth backwards.
you need to do a timing test with a dynamo dyno lap top computer hooked up to the engine computer. the dealership for ford will do it let them know.

How to remove the oil pan on a 99 ford contour 2.5

This is quite a chore, you have to lift the engine to do it:

From AutoZone...

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Remove the water pump pulley shield.

Install engine support device to the engine lifting eyes and support the engine.

Raise and safely support the vehicle.

Remove the exhaust crossover and the exhaust retaining bracket located on the right side of the oil pan.

Remove the exhaust heat shield retaining nuts and the exhaust heat shields from the left side of the oil pan.
