Gear indicator says the car is in drive even though the shifter is in Park.

there is a ball bearing in the valve slide inside the oilpan on modern cars it has oil travel holes in it & when you move the gear selector it pushes the ball bearing into one of the holes which then allows the oil to service the gear you selected-its stuck---if earlier model there is an ajuster rod which could be bent causing it to lock into drive only --auto transmission mechanic job i fear

Probly need it updated. U need a factorytool to analyse and download new data. Dealers dont go back that far so seek an xperiencd shop. Make sure fluid is full n clean. Do any ajustments also. Library sec629 has repair manuals

YOU NEED TO AJUST THE CLUTCH BLEED AND AJUST MASTER CYLINDER FIRST SAME PROCEDURE AS BLEEDING THE BRAKES FILL THE RESIVOUR ON THE MASTER CYLINDER PUT THE LID ON HAVE SOMEONE PUMP THE CLUTCH CRACK OPEN THE BLEEDER VALVE DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES TO SEE IF THE CLUTCH WILL STIFFIN UP ENOUGH TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE SO THE SLAVE CYLINDER WORK`S RIGHT;,IF THAT DO`SNT HELP DO THIS AJUST THE SLAVE CYLINDER FIRST IT IS DOWN ON THE TRANSMISSION IT PUSHES THE ARM ATTACHED TO THE THROUGH OUT BEARING IF THERE IS NO AJUSTMENT LEFT PUT A 7/16 - 1/2 INCH NUT BETWEEN SLAVE CYLINDER PUSH ROD AND THE THROUGH OUT BEARING PUSH ROD ARM I HAVE DONE THIS AND GOT BY FOR YEARS IF NOT YOU WILL HAVE TO REPLACE CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE AND THROUGH OUT BEARING ITS JUST GOING TO BUY YOU 10-20,000 MORE MILES ACCORDING TO HOW HARD YOU DRIVE IT DUMPPING THE CLUCTH WILL KILL IT! FIND A NUT THAT THE SLAVE CYLINDER PUSH ROD WILL JUST RECESS IN TO NOT GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT GIVES YOU THE WIDTH OF THE NUT MORE AJUSTMENT MOST OF THE TIME THAT IS ALL YOU NEED. IT HAS WORKED FOR ME ON EVERY VEHICLE WITH A WORNOUT CLUTCH!?

The gears are slipping in my transmission when I am sitting in drive and what to throught a red light the car sits for a few seconds then goes. can it be my tramsmission flilter?

you should be changing your transmission filter once a year no matter what. Now that I'm off my soap box. You need to ajust the bands. When you pull the filter to your transmission there are going to be some bolts. You need to find the specs to your car and transmission and ajust them. If your transmission is not toast, this could fix it very cheap and easily. Also, have you checked the transmission fluid making sure you have the correct fluid?
