ok i have bought a new dimmer switch and hooked it up but still nothing, where do i go from here?

I have the same problem except my fog lights don't work also. This all started after I pulled out and cleaned my multifunction switch on the steering column. Could I have bumped a wiring harness and unplugged the dimmer or could I have shorted something out? I've checked all the lighting related fuses. How do you get to the dimmer?

This is caused by your dash light "dimmer" either going bad, or coming un-plugged due to recent work (like stereo or alarm installation usually).. if it is unplugged - plug it in, if it is plugged in, order one from the dealer or just get one from a wrecking yard. If you have had a new stereo installed right before this happened, make sure to have them also check their wiring.

humor me... Just go get a dash light dimmer switch and plug it in - It can still turn the dome light on and off when the dimmer is bad, because that is a whole other set of contacts. the reason your lights are not lighting is because the circuit is not complete due to the variable resistor inside the dimmer switch being burned. I have seen this several times in the 17 years i have been working on automotive electrical systems. It is a typical failure on grand ams and grand prixs...

Could be caused by a corroded central grounding point or a blown fuse.

It's normal for the instrument lights (including the overhead panel) to dim when headlights are turned on but this should not affect the dome or courtesy lights.

Dash and shifter lights in 1996 jeep cherokee wont light

Hello and welcome to FixYa . Locate the dial that controls the brightness of the dashboardlights. If the control is not immediately evident. Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse. Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights Replace the fuse if necessary. If just one part of the instrument panel is not lighting up, then you have either a burned-out bulb or a wiring problem.

02 Grand Am SE Instrument lights, fog lights don't work

There is a 10amp fuse located in the fuse box under the R/S instrument panel end cap cover.
Open the passenger door, remove the cover, if I remember correctly it is held in place with clips.
The Illumination fuse probobly blew when you were working on the multifunction switch, it happens.
Good luck, let me know if there is any thing further.

Theft system is stuck on

disconnect your battery for six Min's and re attach the post clips. this will reset the alarm board function. if the problem persist, the theft system is failing and will unfortunately have to be replaced or deactivated.
