Question about 2001 Volkswagen Passat
There is a rubber prong sticking out from the engine block on the right hand side as you look at the engine. Its between the coolant header tank and the engine below a rubber pipe that runs longitudinally. The rubber prong is like a tube and at the end there is a step because the diameter gets bigger. This rubber prong is leaking coolant. I just need help identifiying this part and what it is called so I can replace it. I dont think it is a freeze plug because I have just seen a picture of them and it isnt the same. Please help thanks.

SOURCE: 2001 VW Passat leakin water
I would highly suggest a pressure test to really pin point this leak. I can tell from diagram that the coolant expansion tank line goes right thru that area. I would also caution you to the obvious with this vehicle- everything is a tight fit and coolant leaking from the t-stat housing and or water pump could look similiar. I strongly suggest a pressure test to keep from throwing good money away.

Best thing to do is to undo the engine mounts and lift the engine up. You can use an ond seat belt and a strong peice of wood that will fit accross the engine bay. You can use a tie-down ratchet as well to lift up the engine as it will make things easier. then you'll have more room to remove the pan. Cheers.

Could be just the OIL COOLER. VW IS CORRECT.
If the oil cooloer fails internely you will have a mix of coolant and oil. In the engine and in the Radiator,
But not to say the other guys were wrong...
