Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My Volvo S70 sat unused for nearly a year. Now when I put it in drive & step on the gas, it feels like the emergency break is on. It moves but feels like it's being held back, the car will drive but revs very high & picks up slow!! It seems as tho once i get past that initial slow start, like it would be fine. Seems the same as if I was driving w/the e brake on. Any suggestions, please?? I have been seaechingfor 2 days, found nothing helpful, so I'm hoping I came to the right place:)TYVM

The brakes maybe jamb on. If driving foe approx 15 mins and then check each of the wheels to see if the brakes are very hot. This will indicate which brake is not releasing properly.
You then need to take your car to a brake specialist for repairs.

SOURCE: vam stalling

there are too many reasons...

it could be fuel pump,, it could be ignition coil overheating, it could be the computer itself...

you need two things for the engine to run,

1 is gas
2nd is ignition,,

with these two misfiring or your loosing one of them, it will stall...

i hope i was able to give you some thoughts....

i think your exhaust might have a leak which is heating up your oil when this happens the engine suffocates and wants to die.

SOURCE: car stalls when i put it in drive or reverse,

Sounds like your vacuum assist brakes diaghram has sprung a leak. Pull the hose to the assist and plug it with a bolt or something. Then try it.

SOURCE: WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE IT WILL NOT GO ANYWHERE

Its the electronic shift control located just under the battery ontop the transmission replace or repair will solve the issue

it'll go into drive but once it reaches 1500 rpm it'll drop into neutral as a safety because at this rpm it is being told to shift gear and when it fails to do so it safely goes into neutral

it will go into reverse just fine and park and you can run all the low drive gears until you reach 1500 rpm then it'll cut it off

i pulled mine out re soldered bad components on the board to fix it but im an electronics engineer it may be easier for you to just replace it

I\'m thinking out loud here - if the car won\'t move when you put it in gear, it sounds like maybe the torque converter is bad. If it\'s unbalanced, you\'d get vibrations and the car may not move.

Water under the car may or may not be related. Is that maybe just a few drops, like from the A/C condensation?

If it were the water pump, then the car wouldn\'t start/run because that belt also drives the cams (without which the car won\'t run at all).

1, Check the coolant level - is it normal or low? You can dip a finger in the water on the ground and touch it to your tongue. If it tastes nasty sweet, it\'s coolant (don\'t swallow, rinse your mouth well with water and spit it out).

2, Does the car start/idle normally? If so, then it\'s something with the transmission if the car doesn\'t move back/forth. It\'s a front wheel drive car, so maybe look at the drive shafts inside of the front wheel to see if there\'s oil/grease splattered and if anything looks broken.

Audi a6 runs but won't move...one day out of the shop for steering issues

Can you put it in Drive? If so, when you put it in drive and step on the gas does the engine feel like it's working hard to move the car or does the engine just rev? Could be a stuck emergency brake or a broken linkage from your gear selector to the transmission. Need some more detail to troubleshoot further. Can you describe happens when you try to move it?

Alarm system

I first bought a 1990 volvo turbo 760. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS VEHICLE! it was rear wheel drive and VERY easy to work on. it was a BLAST to drive and blow 5.0 mustangs off the road with a 4 cyllinder. I loved driving that car so much I bought a 1998 S70 Volvo (kept the 760 model). turns out I paid ALOT MORE for just another toyota camary with a Volvo nameplate. I didnt keep it long. it just wasnt the same. the interior started falling apart from day one.
I know the dissapointment... if it were me I would not spend any money on the alarm system. but if I did I would get the aftermarket version installed.
PLEASE dont let the timing belt break on this car!!!!! it wont be the same as your old one! it will be $4000 damage to the engine if it breaks. change it out early!
