My 01 corvette has a burnt smell

My 01 corvette has a smell when the clutch is engaged while idling. The clutch appears to work properly and shifts ok. Possible problem?

Oil level in trans Check fluid , engine idling in park , if it is full it will be internal , burnt out clutches.

Why will my car only engage in reverse


First check trans fluid level If OK then make sure there are no problems with shift linkage. If OK then there may be internal damage to clutches also make sure trans. fluid is red and not brown and does not smell burnt. if it does then clutches are damaged, trans repair is necessary. Good Luck!

Will not go into reverse.


Hi, have you checked the fluid level on this ? If the fluid smells burnt and is brownish in color most likely the first and reverse clutch has burned out, or the rear reverse band may need adjusted.

If your fluid is a mid to dark brownish color it may need rebuilt and if it smells burnt also.

The reverse and first gear shift work off the same clutch pack inside the transmission and off the reverse band as well. Also if by chance the reverse band spring is broken or the piston push rod has broken will cause loss of reverse too. The forward gears will still work but may get sluggish and take time to engage over time.

check pressures for drive gears if not in range then possable bad clutches in the ****** if you have a scan tool scan for shift coads and tern your shift sylinoids on and off to see if you have engagement if not rebuild or replace

Transmission is shifting hard in first and 2nd


This part of the transmission gear work the hardest because it the first move to an accelerated gear change. I hope the problem is not too far gone. Check the level of the transmission fluid, not just that, check the color n smell. If it smells burnt u have burnt clutches. If however its more brownish than the original color n no burnt smell. Just drain n replace oil then see if it improves. If it doesn't improve, run a scan on it, it may also be the shift solenoids acting up. Worst case scenario is burnt clutches. I hope it doesn't get to that.

My jetta 1999 work mostly fine but reverse not engage


WELL CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.ALSO IF FLUID LOOK DARK SMELL BURNT REPLACE FLUID AND FILTER AND CHECK MANUAL SHIFT VALVE ADJUSTMENT.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD YOUR REVERSE VALVE IN VALVE BODY STUCK OR DAMAGED OR FAULT IN VALVE BODY.TRANSMISSION COULD HAVE DAMAGED OR WORN REVERSE INPUT GEAR AND CLUTCH PLATES PISTON SEALS.

I have a 2003 camry,4 cyl engine auto trans,143000 miles on it, just replaced the trans with used unit with 20,000 mile on it, car dose the same thing, when shifting from 2nd to 3rd it holds the shift high...


Usually burnt and discolored ATF mean pump or torque converter not doing there job or bands and clutches are worn. Shift solinoid or a pressure problem is the problem with 2nd and 3rd gear, Take it to a transmission shop and have them look it over but like I said earlierdiscolored ATF could mean a rebuild.

Burned clutches I know you said they just seviced it but i would take it back if its still under warranty. Just by what you said the tranny is slipping and the burnt smell is an indication of burnt clutches. The rev up is a sure sign its slipping.

Clutch does not engage with a/c turned on


Are you talking about the A/C clutch?No clutch engagement usually means no refrigerant in the system....or not enough to allow the pressure switch in the system to close allowing power to the A/C compressor clutch.
This is the problem 99% of the time there is no A/C clutch engagement.The other 1% is electrical....burnt out clutch windings or no power to the system.....fuse etc.
