Question about 1989 Honda Civic

2 Answers

A mystery to me! Maybe you know!?

Okay, I have owned my 89 Honda Civic for more than 10 years now and would not trade if for the world - awesome reliable car!!!

A few years ago tho it started doing something very strange. When it is really hot and humid out, after I stop and go a couple times it just refuses to start. I go to turn it on and nothing. Doesn't crank, not even a click! Its like the battery is not in it.

BUT, as soon as it cools down, it fires right back up??? Obviously something is getting overheated, but WHAT??? Any help here would be great! LOL

Other than that, this car has never let me down! I usually just plan AROUND those super hot days now! HAHAHA

Next time it does that.... hit the starter with a hammer (not too hard) while someone attempts to start it... if it starts... replace the starter.

Radiator fan won't turn on at all

on the 92 civic you have 2 sensors for the coolant, one is a coolant fan switch and the other is a temp sensor. the fan switch tells the computer to turn on the fans at a certian temp. i would suggest replacing the fan switch which is located on the thermostat housing. if that doent work it could be the relay. I have owned my 92 civic hatch for 10 yrs and have done all the work to it myself. Also a mechanic by trade. Hope this will help you out

Okay so I have an Automatic 1996 Honda Civic Ex with about 197,xxx miles on it. My dad got a deal with 5 quarts of Mobil 1 5w-20 fully synthetic oil and said I can have it but idk seems too me like its a...

first does your car use oil,if it does do not use a synthetic oil as the oil consumption will be a lot worse.with this kind of mileage i would be hesitant in going this route as the motor has worn a fair bit and synthetic oil will cause more problems then its worth even if you could get all the oil free.stay with what your using.

19 year old teenage daughter. Traded perfeclty good Nissan 2003 Sentra for a swapped 89 Honda Civic!!! Need wiring diagram for it, and a whole lot of help?

Go to faxonautoliterature. They list at least 3 separate Honda service manuals for that car, one of which is for diagnosing electrical problems. I have used them many times and been very satisfied with the pricing, delivery and service. Just follow the directions on the home page. Hope this helps.
