Question about 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Rear defrost partially working

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and only the two middle strips on the back glass are defrosting, the other strips on the top & on the bottom are not heating up. I live in Chicago and winter is rough so when only the middle section of the rear glass is defrosting and I flip the rear wiper on, it just creates a mess that I can't see through. How can I fix this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have a good mechanic to check to see if the door of the a/c and heater and defroster is working properly. I had the same problem and one mechanic said he could fix it for $750. I got it fixed by an honest mechanic for less than $100. Good Luck!!

I have a 2003 cherokee laredo that keeps blowing air out of the defroster vents. Occasionally it goes back to the fron vents, but soon switches back to defrosters. The air is cold, so no problem with that.

If you have a manual control , you may a a vaccum leak at the firewall under the hood. when you give it gas and the vents go from the floor to defrost . listen for hissing, and cracked / broken vaccum lines

Does you circulation fan operate all the time when the A/C is on? It sounds like your A/C is low on gas. Check your A/C sight glass, located in the A/C piping under the hood, and see if there are any bubbles passing through the window. If there is, you system's gas is low. If this is the case, you need your system leak tested and re-gassed.

My 1999 limited does this. When i bought it off the guy he said that its because of some flap down by the passengers left foot. In mine the passenger air barely even blows because of this.
